+ 1000!! I could play Ray's bass, and still not be able to play Night Train smoothly.
One (kind of) related anecdote I like to tell is when I was working for a company that made wind instruments and accessories. A famous trumpet player agreed to help design and endorse a mouthpiece. When it was completed, we held a photo shoot, which I attended along with the trumpet player and the company's artist-liason guy.
during the shoot, the liason guy kept commenting, Wow, you sound great with that mouthpiece! What a great mouthpiece! Finally, the trumpeter took the mpc off the horn, threw it to floor and executed several flawless, stratospheric huge-toned runs by blowing directly into the leadpipe. "That's how great your damn mouthpiece is!" he said, glaring.
That incident never made it into the marketing materials, by the way.
