There's an Opeth video on youtube where you see their bassist with a Squier Jazz, though I think he plays a Marcus Miller for live performances.

These days anyone with a major contract will be given endorsements and it'd be foolish to turn them down. But many of the great recordings were played on stock instruments.

A lot of guys use Ibanez basses and they're pretty much in the same class as Squiers.

why would a famous basist play an entry level bass. I mean, he could, and would sound good but if you play bass for a living you could afford an expencier instrument. Squiers are good basses but if I were a teacher or earning money with it I´d go for the real thing.

The budget bass might give you your sound. Check out Mike Mondesir who uses an inexpensive Yamaha BBNII5. A man who gets gigs with Jeff Beck and Whitney Houston probably just needs to keep doing what he's doing.

This is one of those always incoming threads that ultimately does not make sense.

Is there a real motivation behind the posting, like inferior complex based on the instrument someone owns? If so there are other solutions than boasting that this person is using the same cheap stuff I'm using.

Ultimately does not matter what someone is using if it sounds good. Works the other way around, too. If someone needs a special brand just so they feel they are real players, that's pretty sad.

I don't keep up with Chevelle. But I'm pretty sure at one time they had a bassist who played an Epiphone Thunderbird. At $300, that's certainly an entry level bass.

I'll second that emotion. If by magic I suddenly became "famous" tomorrow I'd still play my Squier Affinity P-Bass. It's well set-up, feels good in my hands, sounds exactly like a P-Bass should, and i'm familiar with its quirks. Why would I play anything else? As usual, YMMV.

hahahaha, yeah except the Prestige line, those are pretty good basses, but anything below a 7 series is pretty much entry level.

I would disagree.

Squier is a dedicated budget brand, topping off at what, 400 dollars? Ibanez on the other hand is a full fledged brand with instruments ranging from 200 bucks to a few grand.

Sure, they kind of have a reputation for being a cheap, japanese brand, but it's unfair to just equate it with Squier wholesale. That's like saying macdonalds is a healthfood store, because they sell a salad.
