Fane Sovereign 12-250 for 4x12" closed cab ?

I think the 12-200 version is better, but harder to find.

Yup it would work but the old Hiwatt 4x12 cabs sounded rather fine with EV 12l's.
Steve Harris for one, made that tone combination very famous.X

Yup they did when you first got them. But if you had a Dr201 head like I did, the old original anstropic ferrite magnet cast frame fanes, usually dumped the voice coil windings in the magnet gap when the adhesive melted after a few concerted attempts at the Who live at Leeds sound.
The fanes sounded quite good with a pair of 4X12's but the Electrovoice EVM12l's were much more rugged with only one 4x12 and sounded even better to my ear.
The new fane sovereign is nothing like the 70's fane driver Hiwatt originally used.
Another driver that was really great in a sealed 4.4 Cu Ft internal volume 4X12 was the old Altec 417 Series II.
But because Randy Rhodes absolutly loved them in his Marshall cabs, the prices for a decent condition set of 4 is very very high these days.
I would think there are far more second hand Electrovoice and Altec chassis in the Argentine than fanes and recone kits are still available for both types.X
Other than that clever old boy JohnK10 built an old Ampeg 4X12 with Eminence delta lites and even fitted JBL alloy voice coil caps on them.

yeah I've done a sealed v4 cab as well using a eminence driver. just like the posted fanes there is always trade offs. some 12s have great midrange and highend but have low xmax so power handling is limited for bass response. then the 12s with good xmax for low end have high inductance so they lack highend and sensitivity. usually are only designed for ported and don't work sealed.
eminence has a driver which fits right in the middle and works for sealed as well.

the dual cone 250 fane speaker is really catching my interest. the high end on that driver is amazing. eminence has a dual cone 12inch as well. but only works in ported. if the EBP or efficiency bandwidth product is correct those 250 could be a very good fullrange for bass. and yes the 200 seems better. large
xmax. but again like many the sensitivity drops and it's a very dark speaker

The beta series tend to, imo, have a more damped suspension than the alphas, which are also cheaper than the betas, making them better in a smaller air space. Also, I like how you mention the Johnk's v4 cabinet, is a bit deeper than a Marshall, which helps with the application for a bass cab as well.
