Farty Sound with SWR Workingman's 4004

I am in the market for a new cab, I think...

Reason being, I have an older SWR Workingman's 4004 410/115 stack, and whenever I play any type of active bass through it, with the bass boosted on the bass (not the amp), I get this farty sound that rattles my speakers and just sounds horrible. When I play a standard passive, just as a Jazz Bass, I get no issue at all.

Any idea why this would happen? I use a Markbass LM Tube 800 for my amp.

I don't want to spend the money if not necessary, but I am thinking I may have to.

I don't and haven't played these cabs. If you haven't already, try playing through one cab at a time. maybe one has a repairable fault that becomes audible when you boost the lows

You may be boosting sub sonics by using the bass boost on the active bass, this will produce more speaker flap than usable sound. Installing something like fdeck's HPF in the effects loop would help.

Also, NOT boosting the low eq will net more volume.

When you test the cabs solo, pay attention to how much volume each can handle. If it is significantly different that might be a problem.
