I know it sounds totally nuts but I used these in a pinch one time and never went back, I prefer these to any pair of fingernail cutters I've ever had. Does take a certain technique.

My nails seem to grow back pretty fast too. When my main musical interest was classical guitar, I would file and shape them as necessary, and if one broke or I messed up with the file and had to clip it, I knew it would grow back quick. That was a good thing. Now that my main musical interest is electric bass, I need to remember to stay on top of clipping them regularly, and I'd rather they didn't grow back so quickly.

Can relate OP.
It happens far too often that I feel like playing, and pick up my bass, only to clickty clack - clickity clack, then sigh and mumble crap as I put my bass down and head to the can to clip them. Hygiene is fine otherwise, just lazy to clip I think. I oughta take a tip from you guys who file regularly.

Will power be damned, just realize what I did back then. I bit my nails when I was a teenager, until someone told me that there was more disgusting materials under my finger nails than would ever be found in the centre of where the sun don't shine. That did it for me right then & there, lol.

I don't get sick. No colds, no stomach bugs, not even the flu (although I do get a flu shot every year). I've been taxing my immune system for my whole life, and it's taken that training and done it's job, with flying colors.

That doesn't mean I'm going to keep doing it. Monday the line gets drawn and I step over it. And since I'm not eligible for jury duty for another 2 years I stand a pretty good chance this time!

I cut them once a week, although I went on a long weekend trip and forgot to cut my nails. It felt like heaven to cut them back.

I wish mine would just fall out like my hair did decades ago. I keep trimmers where I rehearse (not gigging currently) but know that if I do trimmers will be a must have tool in my kit.

If you know there's a gig coming up, why not just trim your nails in readiness? Or make it a habit to trim them once (or twice) a week? Sheesh, we brush our teeth twice a day, possibly shave each day, shower, do our hair, etc. Just add nails to the list.
What about toe nails? do them regularly, or wait until they make holes in your socks?

Wow! I thought I was the only one with this issue! I clip my nails weekly and I feel I need to clip them TWICE a week, that's how fast they grow.

Also, I have skinny fingers and my index finger is kind of flat, so even cut really short, I have to be careful or get the occasional tip of the nail noise. Sometimes, I resort to using my middle and 3rd finger instead of index/middle.

I'm thinking of having that nail removed. Anyone know a good mob or cartel guy?

Am I the only one whose fingernails grow too fast? Been so busy that I neglected to clip my fingernails before playing tonight. I play fingerstyle and my bass is strung with Chromes—for the whole set I was struggling to turn my index finger enough to pluck the strings without making contact with my fingernail. So my tone was all over the map from harsh highs to round thump, which also resulted in wild variations in volume. Why, God? Why? My wife and daughter are jealous. They wish they could grow their fingernails long and fast like me…but they don't play fingerstyle bass. In a related issue, my eyelashes also grow super long, to the point that they rub against the lenses of my glasses. Again, my wife and daughter are jealous…

Hair and nails grow faster when the weather is warm. It's our biology (although I can't remember WHY that's the case…. decades since I sat in a biology class). So expect more clipper action in the summer months and if you're blessed with a warm climate all year round.

I find it really hard to play finger style if my nails are too long, so I'm with you on this. Just got to keep the extremities under control…. cut the things back every 10 days or so.

No offence friend. I hear ya, I'm the same, only I call it exercising instead of taxing. I don't get sick either, and it's not from being a germaphobe that's for sure. (never a flu shot either!) Hearing that info. back then just happened to end the habit for me.
