Fat Mike "punk in drublic" sound

Hey guys, I wanted to ask about Fat Mikes sound on Punk in Drublic. I see a lot of people asking about his newer sound with the danelectro but I honestly hate that "tinny" metallic sound he's using now. I really love the full deep sound he has on punk in drublic and wanted to know if anyone had any insight on how to achieve it.

I'm using a sterling ray34ca with a GK800rb head and a SWR Goliath 3 cab. Thanks!

I'm pretty sure he recorded everything with a Precision Bass back then. I would say one of those with fresh roundwounds through your rig with maybe a Tech21 VT bass pedal to add some drive and you could get pretty close.

What will the Tech21 VT bass pedal do for me? Just a little added drive or will it add some of that "tube" sound?

Basically, and give it more of an SVT vibe. From what I understand he recorded with an SVT most of the time (and that record sure sounds like one), so short of buying a new head, a VT pedal is probably the next best thing.

Sounds logical haha, thank for the input I'm definitely going to check out the pedal. The little research I've done on it has shown a lot of positive feedback on it.
