Favorite Bass player.

So who is everyone's favorite bass player?

Mine is Cris Kirkwood of the Meat Puppets one of the better bassists that's not too flashy but helps keeps the beat going with a bad ass chunky tone.

On a side note his brother Curt Kirkwood is a severely underrated guitarist, on of the best all time IMHO.

I love McCartney and many others mentioned but there was one genius of pop/R&B/rock/blues electric bass and his name was Jamerson. Ask McCartney

I can't comment on those in Jazz, but my guess is that very few played as melodically.

1. Mick Karn, eyebrows or not
2. Whoever happened to be playing bass on all those Kate Bush tunes.
3. Unwound's Vern Rumsey

If there's a common thread, it's their tendency to wind up on emphasis beats playing some note other than the root.

Peter Tork, The Monkees.

Without him, "Auntie Griselda" would never have blessed our planet.

LMAO!!! Great post! (..and don't forget his vocal part in "Zilch").

My fav? I can't decide between Chris Squire and this guy:

Granted, Chris never was able to swing his hair in circles like that, which obviously held him back in his career development (just think how impressive that would have been in the middle of The Gates of Delirium).

Danny Partridge.

Definitely my favorite as well!
