I'll go - Tully Kennedy. I absolutely love the bass lines he writes. Always tasty fills, groove that supports the band, he plays country and brings a whole new feel to the song.

This McCartney fan will offer "Ray Ransom" of Brick as a bassist that isn't a household name.

I'll just cite two here at risk of dissing innumerable others- first Rick Laird, house bassist at Ronnie Scott's and who played with Wes Montgomery and Sonny Rollins and probably best known for playing in the original Mahavishnu Orchestra. He probably was a household name back then (at least in bassist's homes!) when he was in the center of the spreading jazz-rock scene, but he's drifted out of the music spotlight somewhat- I hear he's gotten heavily into photography. My second is Alan Thomson from John Martyn's band- not sure he's even a name in bass player households!

Jason Aldean is about as big an act as there is. Kennedy is a household name.
