Favorite Cheap Bass

Lets say just about any Ibanez under $500 is better than any other bass out there!

Hmmm...which DiMarzios? How do you like them?

DP 126 Set. Fat. Articulate. Loud. Good for rock, soul, R&B, which is primarily what I do. Others may disagree, but I think that they are pretty great. Others have had success with a Duncan SJP-1 in the P position, and a Dimarzio Ultra jazz in the J position. I haven't tried that yet.

I've tried the Ultrajazz in the J position. It was OK, but a little wimpy compared to the QP in there now. That's the thing about the P Lyte...with normal pickups it sounds wimpy, but with overwounds, it seems to come to life.

Ibanez SG300. I replaced the stock pups with bartolini MK4's.

I also replaced the strings with Ernie Ball Power Slinky Bass 110's.

Another vote for the early Foundations.

Just a nice sounding jazz bass. Nice examples can be had for peanuts.

in march I posted that, but now I'm mostly playing my EVEN CHEAPER Memphis p-bass that I bought from a pawn shop for $35 with a broken neck & put a $100 Mighty Mite on. It's my main player now. I think I actually might be (back to) a 4-string guy after playing the 5-er for 5 years

Yeah, this is the twin of mine (aside from the replacement neck o' course...) I love it. Been playing it exclusively for some time. High quality Japanese 70s piece. Do you find that yours sounds great?

I paid less than $600 for my Jag, so I guess that qualifies.

I can also vouch for the P-Lytes... I learned on one of those. I regularly see those in the 350 range used.
