Favorite "cheap beer"??

PBR 30 pack cans, $22 Central Ohio. About as cheap as I wanna go.

Hamms is decent.

I'm not proud and I'll drink any beer but as far as buying, PBR 30s.
Next time I go to the store I'll check how much PBR is for a 30 pack.

Lately I'll buy either Labatt Blue ($23 a 30 pack) or Genesee ($20 a 30 pack).

I was never picky about beer as a kid. Hell, Old Style was a treat- otherwise it was poopie like Black Label in the returnable cases. *shudder* When I got older I drank Leinenkugels and Rolling Rock when out and about.

I was expecting most everyone to say Pabst. Back when Pabst went under- I lived literally 4 blocks away from the brewery headquarters. I do my damndest to not buy or drink Pabst to this day.
I don't mind a Pabst tbh. I actually got a big (24ish oz) can of PBR and Bud last time I was in Michigan and compared them to the stuff produced in Canada.

The PBR was like two different beers altogether. The Bud was honestly darn near identical.

Expensive beers range from heavenly to downright awful. I've dumped out many a bottle of craft beer after the first sip.

I can be a bit choosey with craft stuff. Count me out of most IPAs, but I can dig a stout or pale ale.

A basic lager is pretty dependable IMO, but variety is the spice of life.

Warning: I will get a bit beer geeky but bear with me (or shall I say “beer with me”?)

So the first time I played with a band when I was 32yo, they brought in a 12 pack of Coors. At the time, I was working in the craft beer industry so I kinda half-sneered down at it while still intrigued. I had Coors for the first time and actually enjoyed it. I jokingly “confessed” to my friend who has his 2nd level cicerone certification, he said that Coors is actually legit good for a macrobrew. i didn’t have to question my discerning tastebuds.

Now I live in Japan and don’t have access to Coors. I actually want Coors once in a while. But recently, my friend brought me Pub Beer by 10 Barrel Brewing. It is such a normal lager but soooooooo good! It’s also 80 cents per can so you can drink it all day. Oh to live in the states again….View attachment 7121234

I've been a craft homebrewer since the late 80s so I guess that makes me kind of a beer snob, and Coors is one of the few American mega factory style beers that I think is okay.

I miss cheap beer lol. I used to buy Hi Brau Beer in the 70's back in Chicago for like $6 a case in returnable bottles, brewed by Joseph Huber in WI.

We used to buy this brewery's other beer, Huber Bock. It's a bit bland for the bock style but it has a mild sweetness and a slightly toasted malt flavor that makes it very drinkable.

In 1990, they sold for $5 for a case of 24 bottles (returnable with deposit.)

Coors Banquet in the tall boy format is still my favorite and reasonably priced esp if you can find a 12 pack. No idea why the 16oz cans taste so much better than bottles or 12oz cans but they do.

Costco has 30 packs of Rainier for $20, and it’s pretty good.

Rolling Rock, Hamm’s, Busch, PBR, and Miller High Life all have tall boy sixers for around $7-8, and I’ll rotate through them.

So Anyway, I'm looking for some Genesee Beer, but no one carries it locally.
In the meantime, I'll just listen to a song about the Genesee River.

I'd imagine in your neck of the woods that AB products are the main things to fill your store shelves.

I just picked up a 30 pack of Genesee, I'll post action pics later.

Never understood the "Light Beer" deal...... the alcohol content is similar between Light and full strength, but the taste is missing and I need flavor in a beer.
Carbs, my friend. Those of us trying to lose weight and/or diabetics need to watch our carbs. Michelob Ultra tastes great.

Yep, InBev owns the original AB brewery right across the river in St. Louis. AB has the lion's share of shelf space and market locally, but that's not just in our area. They're a big corporation with well-established distribution.
When InBev bought out AB, some of the execs, brewmasters and technicians took their buyout money and stayed in the brewing business. That and the beer culture of our area has resulted in a lot of new small breweries in our metro region.
But no Genessee.
My quest continues.

Yeah, about 7 months ago, doc said my blood indicated approaching prediabetes. Changed diet immediately, which included the darker beers I used to love.

Nowadays, on weekends, I drink Daytime from Lagunitas or Slightly Mighty from Dogfish Head. 3 and 3.6 grams of carbs respectively, 0 sugar, each 4.0 ABV.

Oddly enough, I bought 2 singles of a beer I used to love, and they tasted like crap LOL. My whole taste palate has changed due to the diet change. Didn't expect that, but I'm good with it.

Despite my 1 or 2 carb indulgences on weekends (like a regular bun on a cheeseburger with fries), the numbers have improved and I've lost 30lbs in the process.
