I could trade Far Side strips all day. Remember colcifer? He used to get real cranky when people posted Larsons stuff.
However, I'd be hard pushed to choose between Far Side and Calvin & Hobbes.

Yeah...something along the lines of "Larson doesn't like it when people post his stuff" IIRC.
I'm not sure if it qualifies as a "strip", it's more of a web comic with long story arcs but I think Dr. McNinja is one of the funniest things going to my mind...
This was my favorite as a kid, and when people came back from Scotland from a visit after we moved to the US, they would bring me copies. My all time favorite comic. Remember this Titus?? Beryl the Peril, trouble making schoolgirl.
Don Martin was one of my favorites growing up. Hmmm... maybe that explains some things.
Haha, I remember as a kid wondering what was up with the weird curly toes he'd always draw. The 70's had some great paperback collections, Don Martin, Andy Capp, BC, that legionnaire one can't remember the name, Tumbleweeds, etc.
I used to work wit a guy named Don Martin. I nicknamed him Flib-A-Dip after the sound walking people made in Don Martins strips.
Love a bit of FarSide, and this image jumps to mind whenever I try to push a pull door (or pull a push).
OK, so the statue is of Desperate Dan and Minnie the Minx, but The Beano, Dandy and other D.C. Thomson comics were certainly one of the good things to come out the 'dee. That and the GTA games, you'd almost think we were some sort of trouble makers

Something Borderline Offensive
Calvin and Hobbes will eternally be the greatest comic strip ever written, with all due respect to the Far Side.
For currently running comics, my favorite is This Modern World. They're consistently political, but hopefully this one isn't offensively so, since it involves no depictions of elected officials (only unfortunately appointed ones).
