Favorite Jazz Bass Finish

I prefer an unpainted fretboard, so maple necks have never been on my radar.
As for PF, i’ve been using MIM Deluxe necks for a number of years and they have always been PF.
I wouldn’t sweat a PF board and if you just can’t deal with the mottled look, dye it black (Stew Mac sells dye specifically for that purpose), but i’ve used rosewood and ebony boards forever and never had issues and the PF boards i’ve been using lately? TBH i can’t feel any difference between my RW MIA j bass necks and my parts basses with MIM PF Deluxe j necks.

To me, I love color, so I’d go with the tide pool or the (I can’t believe I’m saying this) orange! It looks really cool. If not, to me a black and whit Jazz is super classic.

Sadly, except for Sunburst, Natural and the occasional Tobacco Burst, most transparent finishes are reserved for the higher-end models and series'. There may have been others priced on the lower end of the sub-1k price range, but I can't think of any. White Blonde, maybe?

I didn't have a problem with the color, because there was only 1 Player Jazz in the shop Polar White looks great with maple fingerboard.

With general reference to all Jazz basses { not strictly 'Player' series }, my favourites are:

60's

1) Black - rosewood board - tortoiseshell pickguard
2) Olympic white - rosewood board - tortoiseshell pickguard
3) Sherwood green - rosewood board - tortoiseshell pickguard {especially with matching headstock}
4) Lake placid blue - rosewood board - white pickguard
5) Candy apple red - rosewood board - white pickguard {especially with matching headstock}
6) Sunburst - rosewood board - tortoiseshell pickguard

70's

1) Black - maple board - white M.O.P. pickguard
2) Natural - maple board - white M.O.P. pickguard
3) Black - rosewood board - white pickguard

Absolute no no's:

1) Sunburst - maple board - white pickguard
2) Sunburst - maple board - black/tortoiseshell pickguard
3) White - maple board - tortoise/black pickguard

Black with white, white with black and my personal favorite - sunburst with black (5 ply). When I get natural wood finishes, I prefer no pickguard at all - or white.

Firemist gold. I hope one day I can get a 1966 jazz bass in firemist gold with the lollipop tuners, matching headstock, and bound rosewood neck with clay dots. I'd also gladly take a reissue of this bass if Fender was smart enough to make one and not make the price more than the originals

it is a monster in sound but not colorful as you like .Actually it is much lighter in weight than fender big bodies .
