Double Bass Favorite Long E(c)

I have a complete set of Jargar mediums on my Arvi now, and it's pretty responsive and sounds nice. I had to look all over for a shop that carried a Jargar extended E, though. The Jargar forte it replaced was too stiff. I had an EP before that, which sounded okay but was super-stretchy and therefore difficult to tune.

Bel Canto and Passione are both pretty functional. I've also liked the weich Spirocore.

You might like the stark Bel Canto when it gets released. The prototypes have a little more bite and volume than the mittels.

I would agree with the spiro medium recommendation, but if you are a handy person you can do even better.

The spiro stark is not made for extended E, but if you use tailpiece wires (which very often improve the sound of the bass anyway) you can make the wire for the E string extra long so that the ball end of the string sits very close to the bridge. You have to take out most of the red silk from the bottom of the string as well, otherwise you would be bowing on the silk.

This will usually give you enough length for an extension, and IT IS THUNDEROUS !!!

This is what I've done and yes, it's thunderous!

If you are extra handy, you could probably McGuyver some kind of wire extension from a regular tailpiece to do the same thing.

The Thomastik Homepage states, that
Spirocore 4/4 Medium C/E has a tension of 38kg
and
Spirocore 4/4 Stark E has a tension of 38kg
so should sound and feel the same?

Both are only availabe as 110cm 4/4.
No 105cm 3/4 string available.

Has anyone here tryed a set of Spiro Starks with the Medium C/E string? Does it feel and sound balanced?
