Hey Guys,

I'm putting together a Saga P-bass Kit (which is actually very nice in quality) and I'm thinking of modding it to be a P/J.

I haven't owned a P/J bass in a while so I'm looking for recommendations on pickups.

I'd like it to be a "vintage" kind of sound so active EMG's are out.

I also don't know if it's ok to use a traditional single coil jazz bass pickup at the bridge or if a stacked humbucker is the only way to go.

Yeah I'm not opposed to it. I think no matter what pickups I decide on, they'll end up costing at least as much as the whole kit itself.

Any thoughts on humbucker vs. single coil Jazz pickup in the bridge?

I don't plan on ever soloing the bridge pickup. It'll most likely be full on, or completely off. Not sure if a single coil will have hum regardless in the P/J setup.

The Jazz Bridge pickup will hum in a P/J bass. Suggest a Seymour Duncan Classic Stack (split coil and low noise with good tone).

In order to completely rebirth a badly handled mid 90's active Epi EBM-4 I purchased on the cheap, I'm completely rewiring and converting it to passive [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]As one of the godfathers of modern tone in general, noiseless technology, had apprentices by the name of DiMarzio, etc, can't go wrong at $124. But then again, I haven't recieved them in the mail yet to test out after installation.:atoz:

However I will also stand up for Fralin jazz pups, which seem to be a bit more "open" and "articulate" than some others. Haven't used their P .

Fralins are very good. Haven't had Dimarzio Bass pickups but their Guitar pickups are sweet.
