I'm using D'addarios Prosteel for some months on my Jazz and I can say they are very very long lasting, not rough now with some use (and dirty) and with a good tension not too higt but not floppy. Are still brilliant not darker sound like Rotosound that probably don't last like these.
D'addario's regular Gauge Nickel I've mounted on my AFR are completely different, more tensioned and hard don't have flexibility like Prosteel and in tone I prefer the old stainless but these are still new.

As I stated earlier in this thread .... I like Dunlop Marcus Miller Spirt Brights on my Fender Elite Jazz V.
But my US Geddy Lee loves Ernie Ball Cobalt Flats and the Super Brights on the G string.

After a stint with the half-wounds and then Labella DTB tape wounds, I've since moved to 9050Ls on my fretless Jazz.
My favs for a Jazz Bass...
GHS Precision Flats - not a ton of output but the wonderful tone is to die for, great feel, I’m just gobsmacked by the great tone. I didn’t want to take them off but I really wanted to try out the Pressurewounds that I had bought specifically with the Jazz in mind.
GHS Pressurewounds - strong, really ballsy, nice sweetly rounded top, very present/almost verging on aggressive, very nice feel with noticeably reduced finger noise, the G string never sounded more balanced with the others and is more enjoyable to use. Now I need another Jazz Bass lol
GHS Bass Boomers - very balanced, nice top end for a roundwound, nice for slapping and fingerstyle, tough as nails, decent sounding 30-90 extra light gauge set available for those with bendy neck issues
One other possible contender would be D’Addario Half Rounds that I put on a couple of days ago that felt like dirty, grindy, machine shop arse and had an equally grindy, lo-fi, boxy, nasally crappy punk rock tone until I literally spent an hour wiping them down and cleaning them with 0000 steel wool and iso alcohol to make them sound like a completely different and far better string.
After this treatment I put them on another bass and was very much surprised at how much better the tone was. I originally had written these off for the Jazz but I’m now contemplating another try with same as they now sound much more flat like but with a more even, balanced neutral sound with a softer bottom and more airy overall tone than the PFlats. Not aggressive at all.

The Prosteels are higher tension but sound good and are cheap. I really like the Dunlop steels the best so far. Lower tension but not too low. I think they wear in quite well and have a very musical sound.
my J currently has roto 66, lightgauge (35-90). i'd be happy to hear the instrument with TI jazz rounds as those strings work on my P -basses and PJs. because:
- i like rounds.
- i dislike flats.
- i know what to expect from roto 66 sets.
- i know the TI rounds pretty well, too.
DR's seconded as a nice choice for a Jazz. I have them on right now and they have a warm and piano like tone to them. Sound great with fingers or a pick.
I recommended them to a friend and he said they felt amazing as well as sounding.
