Favorite strings

Haven't looked at the other replies....

My favorite strings are DR Lo-Riders. They have a slightly higher tension than the average string, which is especially important on the B string IMO. They have a nice kick on the low mids, so they are very punchy. And, for SS rounds, they have a pretty nice feel to them, not too rough. They are the best roundwound string I've come across.

For flats, I like D'addario Chromes.

Lakland Nickel Rounds, made by GHS. I tried many other strings --Rotos, DR, Smith, Elixir, D'Addario, Ernie Ball -- in nickel and stainless before coming back to these for my 55-94. I don't care for the "wangggggggg" sound of stainless. TI Flats or Lakland Joe Osborn Flats when I use flats on the 55-94, which is most of the time. For my Hofner Icon, LaBella Beatle Bass flats after trying and not liking Pyramids. I left the stock EB Slinky on my OLP TL modelk because I don't play it that much and it allows me to have one five string with rounds, one with flats.

I just fitted a set of TI jazz flats to my bunny 6 string and have to say that those are now my favorite type of strings except for the cost (why does everything from Austria always have to cost a bazillion times more than stuff from anywhere else?). The main reason being the low tension. This is a total revelation - now I can just barely touch my bunny and get all kinds of solid notes out of it without nearly as much digging in.

The bass thanks me as well, the truss rod having loosened over a 1/2 turn over where it was with the stock Carvin (LaBella flats I believe) strings on it.

My G&L's have Chrome flats on them but soon as I rob the economy of a small country somewhere, hopefully I can afford TIJF's for those too.

They're surprisingly bright, about like a week or two old set of rounds. It's not objectionable but I expect over time they'll deaden up and give me even more thump.

i tried blue steels years ago and for some reason i keep coming back to the blue steels!.....when im on a budget ill get carvin bass strings

We all have our personal tastes in sound, look and feel for our strings. I'm using D'addario XL's on my basses. I'm currently in the works of getting my 7 string made and I'm curious on what else is out there for good string brands. I like the brighter sounding strings, I dont like strings that have to deep of a tone. I like them to have a slight piano sound to them. Whats good fellow bassist, what do you prefer?

Those are the same strings I use. I haven't found anything better yet.

As far as rounds, I was never one for stainless steel. I always went right for nickel plated round. In that department, after years of just buying whatever, I settled on D'Addario XLs .45-.105. Then last month I tried DR Hi Beams. Very tasty tone- and they're not rough on the fingers, which is the main reason I never could get along with stainless. So nowadays it's kinda 50-50. In the flats department, I've settled quite nicely on the Chromeage. Yes.
