It is also the strongest point structurally in the aircraft.Yep...thats why the Cockpit Voice Recorder and the Flight Data Recorder, more commonly know as black boxes, are positioned in the aircraft's tail. The best ride is just over the the wings. That's were all three aircraft contol axis, (pitch, roll & yaw) converge so you will have less motion in normal flight and also during unstable air conditions. Of course everything has a downside and in this case note that the fuel is stored in the wings.
and i like to look out the window in between ... it's not everyday you get a view like that! The scariest part of flying to me is airport pricing and the cattle walk thru security
That's needing to be in control...and i'm right there with you.Terrified of flying and will avoid it at any cost.
Here's that strange bit: I have a relative whose is a flight instructor--and I've been up many times--even got to do a bit of flying on a few occasions---never had a problem with this.
But put me on a giant mechanical blunderbuss like a 767, and I lose it.
One reason you feel more comfortable in a small plane is, when you are in the cockpit, you can see out of the front window and your brain can anticipate whats happening around you. In other words, you have a lot more situational awareness. When I am on a commercial airliner and looking out a small side window, I am not has comfortable either.Terrified of flying and will avoid it at any cost.

Oddly enough I feel this way about any ocean vessel. My rationale is if the plane goes down so do you. If a boat goes down it could turn into a horrific ordeal of life or death.
Flying used to bother me. After hundreds of flights, now I just assume I'm dead when I board the plane, so anything that happens during the flight doesn't matter and a safe arrival is gravy.Who has it and how have you dealt with it? I always loved flying until about 3 or 4 years ago where some stress overload just threw my into a panic attack and I had to get off. Tomorrow will be the first time since where I'm willing to try it again. Have meds if need be, but who wants to "need" that?!
