fEARful 12/6 with GS112?

I absolutely love my 12/6 with both electric and double bass and have not needed more volume so far. However, I sometimes play outside or without PA support and may want more oomph at some point. I would love to build another 12/6, but I'm getting ready to go through a career change and won't have any extra money for quite a while.

I have 2 Aguilar GS112s that I used happily for a few years before I got the 12/6, but have been thinking of selling them. I was wondering if I could use one successfully with the 12/6 for more volume and to get the full 500 watts from my LMIII.

I know about the potential problems of mixing cabs, but I'm curious as to whether this combination might work. I have no gigs coming up that warrant bringing both, and I can't really crank them up at home to see how they sound together.

I was just curious what thoughts you fEARful folks might have about this.

I had been using my own designed 210/6 cab along with my fEARful 15/6 for loud (especially outdoor) gigs, only for the reason I did not want to push the 3015LF too hard (they ain't cheap to replace). And I too couldn't (and still can't) afford a fEARful sub.

Of course my 210/6 slightly pre-dates the release of the fEARful plans and Greenboy and I had lots of conversations when we were each designing our cabs.

My 210/6 uses the heavier BP102's and when I use it with my 15/6 I do not use the 6" mid. I don't have an internal crossover in the 210/6 and had previously bi-amped to control the crossover (each side has it's own input jack). When used with my 15/6 only the BP102's are used and so the two 10's are running full range. Fortunately those BP102's run out of A LOT of gas above 500Hz, so I haven't had much of an issue with them interfering with the 15/6 mid driver.

More speakers give you more volume and only you can determine if they'll sound good enough to get the job done. Will it be ideal? Not as ideal as a dedicated 12 or 15 sub, but it may be better than pushing your 12/6 too hard. Always trade-offs.

This is my BIG rig for large volume gigs. Although I've been finding my fEARful 15/6 really does handle most big, loud gigs just fine on it's own with enough power now.

I will be daisy-chaining them from my LMIII, which will give me 500 watts at 4 ohms. The 12/6 can definitely take a lot more than the GS112, but I'm really curious as to how they will sound. When I get a few minutes, I will haul the GS112 up from the basement and give it a go in my music studio/den.

I wish I knew more about how to use speaker modeling software, because I am curious to know if the GS112 cab might make a decent sub if I put an Eminence 3012lf in it.

How much will you get if you sell the Aggies?

My Aggies sound great, but they are a bit banged up from normal gigging. I would guess that I could get $250-300 apiece.

I agree that it would make more sense to just sell them and build a new cab (probably a 12 sub). Right now, I'm working full-time and going to school at night, so time is tight.

My idea of putting the 3012lf in the Aggie would include a crossover, like the one in the 12 sub, but I have no idea if it would work.

I really appreciate the comments and suggestions.

If you got a 3012LF and the right crossover to make it more like a fF 12sub...it will probably 'work,' but wouldn't be optimal as far as cab volume, port volume, etc. goes. You could always try it, with the long range goal of getting a properly spec'd 12sub :)
