There is WAY too much info in threads to locate answers my specific questions. I'm just overwhelmed and don't really have the tech know-how. So I was wondering if anyone could dumb down some of my tech questions for me.

I've made up my mind, and I want them.
Two 15/6 cabs.
I'm considering ordering the fEARful 15/6 Flat Pack Deluxe Kit from Speaker Hardware.
Has anyone had experience with these?

The whole kit seems like a really great value.

Now bear with me, what is the difference in the shunt options? Heck... what is a shunt?

Then there's the high frequency section. What's the difference in th 18 Sound XD125 and the ASD1001 H70e horn. With both options I'm assuming I should choose the prebuilt crossover circuits since I wouldn't trust myself in putting those things together.


AND... one last thing. If I'm going to have two of them, they are recommended to be stacked mirror imaged so that the mid drivers are next to eachother. In the precut packs, can I just flip the board over while I'm putting it together?

fearful flatpacks from speaker hardware are great, and Leland crooks is a great guy to deal with, totally committed to quality customer service and satisfaction.

hes on the fearful forum too.

The shunt options change the shunt to ground on the low pass xover. The standard electrolytic is good to about 1000w. The poly option is good to 2k. Unless you're driving with high power amps, use the standard. There might be some durability advantage to using the poly though, 250v vs 100v. It's idling when the electro is working.

I've had some growing pains with the flatpacks, but we've pretty much got them sorted.
You need to specify that you need one mirror imaged. Does not change the way it's cut out, but does change which side we cut the biscuits into.

The xd is a better driver, has a nicer horn. A little flatter, a little louder. But the ASD does a fine job.

By all means go for it. I just finished a 1212/6/1 and am not disappointed. I bought all of my parts and hardware from Leland, he was excellent to work with and answered many questions for me along the way. I used the 18sound HF and am happy with it, but have no experience with the ASD to compare it to. I just figured if I got the "better" choice I would never have regrets later. It's the buy once, cry once philosophy.

Leland, thank you so much for your answers. That did explain some of the things I was wondering. Expect an email from me at the beginning of the year to get these things ordered.

I do believe I've made my mind up.

They take a lot of time to work out. As is evidenced by my recent debacle with 15/6. Sent out quite a few, they all worked perfectly, then all of a sudden I sent out 3 that weren't fitting correctly. Rebuilt the entire system. I still don't know what went wrong.
If you're doing a one off with biscuits it's stupid fast. But to make it a repeatable process is the hard part.

The other reason is the sheer size of those. Tough to box and ship. I will revisit the 1212/6 over the next month, see what Sam and I can work out.
