Fearful cut plans

Definitely glad I didn’t go the fearless route when picking cabs recently. What a putz. You give away the fearful designs and build a community while selling the upgraded fearless designs. I’m also betting that there was more community contribution to the designs that’s just his work.

More than that, if you read any writeup of Greenboy cabs, they all touch on how he released the Fearful plans for free - it was part of the marketing. Part of the brand.

That contribution to the community factored in to my choosing a Fearless cab late last year when I was in the market. That is part of what I was paying for.

Now, that aspect is gone, and exploded in about the worse possibly way due to the spiteful message.

Poof, there goes all his good will - just like that. Really hoping Dave tries to set things straight, I don't think it's too late just yet...

i hope there's not some sort of terrible health issue. got to hear the other side. it's not a good look right now, that's for sure.

Yes let's hope it's not a health issue.

That being said, what type of illness would cause you to rage delete your website and Facebook pages and remove the information that helps people?

I built a couple of Dave's 15subs, and I love them. I talk up his freeware plans as much as I can, when people comment on my green sparkle amp. Many retailers offer "loss leaders". I thought all along that fEarful was the bait to get us into fEarless, and future versions.

that's the 'not a good look right now' bit. i do hope there is some explanation that absolves this, but it is hard to fathom what that might be a.t.m.

edit: i have used my fearful cab since the 12/6 was introduced, basically. many times i was asked about the red-faced cab with no brand name at gigs, and i have always talked up and recommended greenboy and talkbass to other bassists i meet.

I don't see how that could be the case. The fEARful stuff predates his Fearless line by quite a few years. I've known Dave for a long time now and yeah, he's an odd duck for sure. I also know there's been a fair amount of tragedy and disappointments in his world the past few years. Heck, I dunno, but he did give away plans for very nice cabs for a long time. I can't think of any other cab company that ever did it at all

If you need donations to keep the site running, the best way to get the funds is just to simply ask. "Hey, this site has costs associated with it. Help me help you and donate a few bucks." NPR/PBS/Wikipedia all have donation links but nobody uses those. Ever. They have to run the donation campaigns and then people donate.

I'm surprised he didn't do this a long time ago. Giving away plans for free isn't going to pay the bills, and websites aren't free either.

I agree, but there's a right way and a wrong way to go about it. I'm rooting for him that he'll be able to fix this up in a way that will save face and might also wind up with him getting some additional funds to cover any associated expenses.

I have an F210 (bought second-hand) and I built a couple of boxes using the 15sub design (suitably modified by me). I might have donated to his site, but that secret squirrel crap you had to go through to get on it turned me off. Never used it.

Often when something is free, you get what you pay for.

I know there's no love lost for BFM on this forum, but his plans are very reasonable at $14.00 USD, and he always offers the latest updates, even available long after the initial purchase.
Besides, what's $14.00 for some well documented plans, when you're willing to spend a at least a few hundred on materials to build the cab?

I don't know this as fact, but my impression was that he expected to become financially supported by the fearless designs but that never materialized. Again, pure speculation from reading between the lines.

He definitely gets commissions from his authorized builders, so there is some financial support. Whether it's enough to live on, I couldn't say.

Absolutely. I think the commissions / sales weren't the numbers that were wished for. If I wanted to make money selling cabs, I'd sell overpriced guitar 1x12, 2x12, 4x12 cabs with some unique cosmetic something. Make them noticeable and expensive. Then, they will sell well.
