Realistic, how LOW do you need to be? low B is slack enough. Low A would be like a clothes line.
I am not totaly familiar with downtuning a 5-string but on my 4-string I ply drop C mostly. However with the extra string i don't know how that translates?
Now I really feel like a nub. haha i haven't been playing that long, i can play and drop tune my 4-string but i know close to naught about 5-strings. >.<

My band plays in drop A (AEADF#) and both of my 5's (Spector Euro 5LX, Dingwall Combustion5) handle it no problem.
If they are in c then I would just drop a 4 banger to c. Also merits checking out the fEARless line.
Then there is also the tuning of my side project. It started out as an experimental metal band but since I had to put it on hiatus i am really rethinking it and maybe thinking of extreme/doom metal. Possibly still experimental but mostly really low tuned guitars, maybe even 7 or 8 strings depending on who I find to play, and a 5-string tuned low enough that it still sounds decent but I am not flopping all over the place. What kind of tunign should i look at for that kind of metal? I know this isn't the place for this kind of discussion but it could affect which cab(s) I have to choose from.
Drop F? What kind of strings would I need for such a thing? The guy who is building my bass normally uses Circle K strings.
I am not even sure what that tuning looks like. I am trying to find out though so you guys don't have to answer every dumb question I have. XD

I was just goofing off, my buddy showed me a band that plays 8 string guitars in drop E (a an octave lower, a little crazy). A's about as low as I would go, and to keep your notes clear that low you'll need the speakers and power to produce the frequency as need.
fEARful.....The fearless can do it but they are not quite as low tuned... they are a lil more designed with acoustic Upright basses in mind but yeah they can still go lower then about anything you can buy in the store right now.....Like i said i have ran a Low f# just for the fun of it through my 15/6/1 feeding her 700 watts @ 8ohms and it handled it fine.....it was quite amazing really!! so you wont have any trouble with a low A!!

These two can eliminate any floppiness circle K strings is a great place to look for proper tension down-tuning. Search around here before ordering to get some advice on what set to get.
On a side note-listen to CL and get the 15/6 first.
Sensitivity is your friend when your amp choice is up in the air.
My 12/6 with better than 500 watts is just shy of metal volume.

Drop Bb/A# is what that would be considered. I think Periphery tunes a tone below that to Drop Ab (Ab Eb Ab Db Gb) or Drop A.
You will probably need at least a .130 gauge string for an A. My .125 handled it alright but I had to pick near the bridge and caress it. For that style of music, you'll probably want heavier strings anyways as they give you a brighter attack and, in my opinion, more string tension gives you more options to cleanly do things like chords.
I've never had a set up that could reproduce that low A (I pulled it off in the studio, but again, it was a big whole note). However, I've never had a fEARful rig.

So the 15/6 with the ShuttleMAX 9.2 sounds like the main rig everyone is suggesting. i think I will go with that. Now I just need to figure out what string guages i need and the exact tuning i should be using. On a Djent forum right now waiting. lol So many forums so little time. Thanks for the help everyone. =]
I just got off the phone with Don Barry. We're both authorized builders for Greenboy's cabs. Both of us have a lot of experience with the Fearful and Fearless designs. And I know Mark Roberton's (Dukeorock) feelings, too.
We all prefer the Fearless speakers.They are tuned just as low as Fearfuls but are a little bit smaller. We all agree that the low end is tighter and more focused with the Fearless's. We really all feel that this is really the next step in evolution for Greenboy's designs. They are not intended as "upright" or more polite speakers. If you're doing drop tunings I feel that the Fearless's are a better choice due to their superior low end focus.
