I just found out, as of June 1st, FedEx now charges an AHS Additional Handling Surcharge for packages longer/taller than 48". I shipped a guitar in a Reverb box in April for $27. I shipped a gig bag on Friday, in the same sized box, and the charge was $38.00 due to the AHS fee.

Just something to keep in mind as you ship basses, Gig bags and cases. 48" is the magic height. Once again those pesky guitar players are getting the upper hand..... LOL!!

Best pricing with FedEx is gained by opening an account with them. I only use mine 3-4 times a year, but they don't care. The rates are discounted slightly, the tracking actually works, and I don't have to stand in a line at the post office. Even if their rates bump a bit, it's still usually cheaper than USPS or UPS.

At Christmas, I MUCH prefer hitting FedEx to standing in line at USPS behind people with 12 unsealed packages that they're sorting and taping while at the counter.
