Feedback and boom question

I've always had these two questions in the back of my mind but how does one get feedback as an effect? is it merely a recording trick? or is it all the guitar My second question is why does my combo get boomy and the tone distorted whenever I crank the bass? Is that how every amp reacts? or do you think the cab is over/under powered?

It's a guitar amp with far higher gain than you'd ever use on bass.

Your cab probably has meager response and power handling, that's pretty much the case with most combos, especially inexpensive models.

I use feedback all the time. It only occurs at fairly high volumes, though. It also helps to use all tube amps cranked up.

But it won't happen with a stack? (head, 2 cabs etc.)

You don't necessarily need two cabs. But the average combo saves size, weight and cost by using an undersize cabinet loaded with a low end driver. You're generally better off with separates of decent quality.

Yeah, that's what I was trying to saw all sepearate parts like a head, cab etc. wouldn't create this boom distortion effect.

Not necessarily. Many cab manufacturers intentionally tune their cabs to make them sound as loud as possible, and that also makes them prone to boom. The only way to be sure that the tone you get is the tone you want is to try the rig, preferably in a gig situation.
