Feedback on just one note? Wierd!!! Cool?

Just got a new toy. Ibanez SR305. Sounds ok, Plays nice, but it will feedback if I hold the 9th Fret E on the G. I've never had a bass feedback like that... unless I really tried. Not sure if I like this or not? Is that common? at least its a smooth feedback, not the fry your brain type.

What does this, is it more pickup or electronics? I'd like to scrap the "style selector" eq but don't mind the Pups. (tone is fine, but the range of adjustment sucks)

Almost sounds like I could bust out a lil feedback when jamming in E. probably a risky move on stage tho...

Is your E string vibrating sympathetically, or are you muting it when this happens? How close are you to the amp?

tried muting all strings. tried hitting the octave aswell. im close to my amp, but every other note is clean. feedback dosnt change as i move around. just when i sustain.

What kind of amp are you using? Can you try your bass in an amp that isn't yours?

90% sure it's probably the amp.

I think its a misidentification. It could be like the opposite of a dead spot, and that the wood of your bass totally favours one harmonic overtone for that one note on that one fret? I know acoustic guitars can sometimes really belt out one note at double the volume than all of the others because of the resonant frequencies of the wood.

Just saying because I can turn my amp up pretty loud and stand to close that the bass picks up the stray noise of the fan motor in the back of the amp and it won't feedback any note.

tried muting all strings.

If you really muted the strings, and the 'note' still rang out, it's a microphonic pickup. Solo one, then the other, to find out which one it is.
