Double Bass Feedback Problems!

Hey guys.

My jazz trio sets up very close together, and lately I have been having trouble with feedback being caused by the bass drum from my drummer. The volume of the drums is causing my upright to resonate and freak out. This happens live and when we're recording as a combo. I am looking at sound/drum shields, but I want to know what the best solution is (I use a realist). Any help would be great thanks.

Does he have his bass drum tuned very resonantly, or to a certain note? or is it very percussive and just a quick thud? Since you're playing jazz, it's probably the former, so i'd suggest advising him to deaden his bass drum a tad.
