Feedback wanted - which rig should I buy?

And here come the big cab complainers. As always, my answer to them is despite some of my little stuff sounding quite good, and despite my semi-low volumes, this:

simply sounds bigger and better than this:

It's what's known as "physics." Sure, I'll use the little stuff when logistics dictate that bringing the big rig is crazy, but none of it sounds as satisfying and good as the big boy.

I have used/owned many amps and cabs over many years. IMO, Hartke is not serious gear.

Ampeg.

I have two rigs now an SVT-CL with a SVT-410HLF Classic and an old V4B with a 2x15.

Someone already suggested a V4B and an SVT-410HLF. This would be an excellent rig. Or an SVT-CL even better. Heritage better yet. The 410HLF cab goes very low, shy on mids and has a fairly tame tweeter. It can be eq'd if you want mids, but you can't get that bottom out of most other cabs twistin' knobs. Esp good for 5 string.

Def Ampeg for your amp since you know you like it, but there are some excellent alternatives from other cab makers.

I'm not complaining or knocking an 8X10, whatever turns your crank is cool with me. I'd love to have one, just for the heck of it.

I just wouldn't recommend going that route to someone with a couple of grand looking to move up from a BA115, without really looking around. Seems sort of like going from one extreme to another.

If you Like Ampeg, which I do, and have 2K, here's my 2 cents.

Ampeg SVP Pro Preamp - Used $300-350.
Crown XLS 1500 - 1050 watts bridged into 8 ohms, used $300, or any other class D solid state power that will work with the SVP preamp.
Gator 3 space rack bag 90 bucks or so.
Ampeg Pro Neo 410 cab 64 lbs $1249 new, you can find deals for under a grand on demos, restocks, etc. This is an 8 ohm cab so you can add another cab later for a 4 ohm load and get 1550 watts out of the amp.

This rig also comes in at less than 100 lbs. for cab and head and sounds ferocious. I gigged this exact setup through this last summer and liked it a lot.

Peace and Love,

Mike C

That sounds killer. Or, even though it's not a neo cab, the discontinued PR410HLF is a bad SOB and they are turning up cheap. It's been a while since I heard one, but IIRC more power handling, more mid presence and just as huge a bottom as the Classic 410HLF. I bet you could get one for $300.
