Feel really demotivated about playing bass

I was once in a band that I wrote a lot of stuff/arranged/organized/kept things going.
We might have made something of ourselves (maybe).
Nobody gave me the slightest bit of attention or praise.
If that band had "made the big time" and no-one knew who I was it would have been perfect.

"Stop caring about what other people think" is a great bit of advice that I don't see how to put into practice, at least not in any reasonable amount of time. For now, it's just a fact that you care and there's probably not much you can do about it.

When you list people that compliment your playing you don't list your bandmates. Based on my (limited!) experience, it's easy for a band to turn into several people playing at once in the same room, too busy worrying about their part to listen to anyone else. Have you worked on listening to each other? You might start with yourself, by promising next time you play or rehearse you'll find at least one thing to compliment. ("That lick you added before the chorus really helped make it work", or whatever.) I need to work on this myself....

It'd also be fair if you got to introduce your own songs. (No need for a speech, just "this next one's a new song I wrote called Frobnozzle, hope you enjoy it!")

Good luck! This stuff *is* supposed to be fun, hope you figure it out.
