So a while back I got a ATK750 Koa. I was luke/warm with it. It was versatile, but HHHHEAVY and the Koa top just didn't do it for me.

Fast forward to last week. I decided to give the ATK's another shot. A stunning ATK700 caught my eye, so I grabbed it.

Well, I have to tell you that I'm very impressed. This one's weight is reasonable (about 9.5 lbs according to my scale) which is very light for a 700 series ATK from what I have read. I guess that I got lucky here as my Koa version was prob a good 2 lbs heavier. The neck is amazing. I have the action slammed down LOW with no buzz!

She's damn beautiful too (in my humble opinion). I bought a new Musicman Ray34 at the same time, knowing that I was only going to keep one of the two and the Ray34 went back! Hard to believe as I actually thought that the ATK was going to be the one out the door!

I just ordered Hipshot Ultralights and a Ultralight series Xtender (detuner) for her!

I dig mine in Moon Blue, but that natural is killing me.... stunning!

One thing I've read elsewhere on TB is that detuners may not work because of the volute on the back of the neck. Let me know if it does work... I'm intrigued.

I bought mine as a cheap "I want to mess around with slap" 4 string. I was totally surprised at the playability and wind up gigging with it regularly. My only 4 stringer, and I don't feel a need for any other 4's.

I used the Hipshot chrome thumbrest and mounted it with automotive molding double-stick tape.

The screwheads can be superglued to look screwed in.
No need to drill into the finish.

Me too, and surprisingly, yes it will hold. I was one of the biggest doubters until I tried it.

Go to an autoparts store and get the 3M Automotive Molding Tape. It has a red peel-off. The tape itself is black. I paid under 5 bucks for a small roll.

The guy that told me about it had it holding thumbrest on his bass for 2 years so far. The cool thing is if you don't like where you located the thumbrest after a while, you just pull it off and move it...or leave it off altogether with no damage to the bass.

EDIT: BTW, my Hipshot thumbrest is chrome plated solid brass, it holds the weight of the thumbrest and thumb pressure, no problem.

You talking about the 750? I also have a 750 with a Koa Top.
IIRC,mine weighs around 9 lbs. My 700 is @ 9.5 lbs.
I wish the 750 had a blend pot for the J pup and full humbucker mode. A passive option would be nice as well.
It's a great bass though. The 750 with a QM top should be too, IMHO.
