Pappalardi used both the EB-0 and the violin-shaped EB-1 which are both single-pickup basses. So turn that Sidewinder up and burn through any preamp - apart from possibly SVT - known at the time...

With Bruce, things get a bit more complicated. While there are pictures of him playing a late '60s EB-0, his "main" '65 EB-3 also had electronics modded with a diode which helped push his Marshalls into overdrive at lower power. His "typical" sound from the Cream live recordings never struck me as bridge pickup only, though...that would be a lot closer to what Andy Fraser sounded like most of the time during his Free days...

Then there's Jack Bruce's earlier use of the Fender Bass VI. I heard the What's Shakin'! album when it came out, but I only recently realized that Bruce takes the first solo in the version of Steppin' Out by Eric Clapton and the Powerhouse on that record. Clapton doesn't start to solo until 1:00.

It's a pretty out-there bass solo.

I'd prolly add some mids if possible. that may sound ironic. but for more cut. the sansamps baked in tone. can leave something out. so it maybe a one or the other idea. so you might just blend out the on-board pre and use the cab sim. the Acapulco Gold is a power amp Distortion. that's why suggested it. as another gain stage.

No way Jack Bruce just used the EB-3 bridge pu. I had an EB-3L and tge bridge pickup was marginally useful and definitely NOT Jack’s sound
