Fende P Bass upgrade

I have a Squire/Fender medium scale P bass (32") from Japan. This dates to '84-'87 and I love it. However, I recently tried one of the new Squire medium scale Tele basses with one single coil. This has a much more powerful sound and this leads me to think about upgrading my original pickups.

Fender has a few different models of pickups - "Original," "'62," "57," maybe more. Any comments would be appreciated.

Leave your MIJ Squier bass all original. You will ruin it's value if you modify it. Instead buy the Squier Tele Bass. It's only $300. A pickup and luthier's labor will come close to that much. Besides it's fun to buy new basses.

"Its only $300" - maybe to some that puts quite a dent in the wallet and is the difference between rent and street? Or food and hunger?

Research pickups. Research soldering. Pick out a pickup and buy it. Install it yourself. Save the old pickup in case you ever want to sell the bass. You can re-install, thereby retaining its value.

Soldering iron is cheap, and I have been very pleased with the 62
"Reissue" fender pup

Id be more prone to use seymour duncan or emg P pup for upgrade. For sound preferance. I prefer more agressive modern sound.
