I find it odd that it says "electric bass" under the Jazz Bass decal. Never seen that before, or do I just not get around much?

It's the same decal as the 62 reissue. It even sits ontop of the finish like the AVS reissue basses. And yes the real 60's Jazzes also said 'Electric Bass'.

How so, Knifemaker? Do you mean the volume knobs were reversed (ie., bridge p/u knob closer to the neck rather than the bridge)? I saw one at the Memphis GC, but they had it hanging so high that Andre the Giant would have needed an extension ladder to get it down, so I didn't play it.

I might have been the neck volume pot was wired reversed but it it seemed to control both pups. Something was very wrong. The bass IS a beauty though

Sounds like you had the S1 switch pushed in. The neck pickup volume knob controls both pickups in that mode.

I know what your saying but not much more than 1/4 volume would come out no matter what we/they tried. I should have hit them with a lowball offer

what makes this a hot rod jazz? does it have special electronics? Jedi Bass, were you able to find anymore information about the limited number? they do look like sweet basses.

What makes these "hotrodded" basses are the different parts Fender uses as the make up for this bass. As in any other "hotrod" bass Fender makes they add an extra this change that as well as put together things like P-bass necks on jazz bodies. Basically a parts bass! Fender is just modifying a bass so you don't have too! As far as it being a limited run I don't think it will be a collecters item due to the "modern parts" used to make up this bass, It has the regular serial number in the regular place with no mention of the "limited" availability of it! The blank neck plate will tarnish (plated) as the tuners probably will do the same therefore causing the bass to lose instead of gain value. It's an FSR bass yes, just like the natural jazz and p-bass made for GC. It is possible GC ordered a certain amount of these basses as some players seem to like some of the separate features like SCN pups, BadassII bridge, S1 switch and matching headstocks. I must admit the bass sounds great, if you buy this bass because you love the sound and are going to play it then go right ahead. If you are going to buy this bass with the hopes of having a collectable piece then imho don't waste your time! JMHO

I went back to GC today for some headphones. I tried the Hotrod again and it was working perfectly. Honestly, it's the best Fender they have there. The neck feels great and it's nice and light. I don't know why people don't like the S1 switch, it sounded great in every possible mode through the big Ampeg rig. If they made one is Seafoam or Surf Green, I probably couldn't resist. I already have a "keeper", "go to" Jazz basss.

i normally do not like matching headstock paint, but that looks gorgeous! I like that bass, too bad it's not $500 less.....

I haven't called Fender yet. I wanna get it in my hands before I call them with questions, and it's still in layaway.

And, yes when it comes to investment return.... you should probly save up and go ahead and try to find a vintage instrument to sit on for a while. But, if you want an awesome new bass with great....everything, that will definitely be more valuable than an '08 Standard 30 years down the road, I think this is a good choice. You have to REALLY love the options to appreciate this bass and it's price. I love white jazz basses w/ tort guards, painted headstocks, the S-1 option kicks a*s, the Bada*s bridge is great.... definitely the only Fender I've seen that I love as much as my Lakland 55-94, Rickenbacker, or Dingwall! Is it worth the price?? If you love it, yes...of course! That's why they're selling in a matter of days, at the GC near me. They've had two so far.

Calling this bass a "parts bass" is like calling a Shelby Cobra Mustang a "parts car" . Since the options are factory add-ons/upgrades, they are not detrimental to its future worth. Also, "modern parts" are what Leo used in '62 to build his basses. I think they're fairly valuable now .

The Cobra has all it's parts made especially for it! probably all by ford. this bass has Bill Lawrence pups (SCN's), a BadassII after market bridge, an S1 switch from the MIA basses line, tuners and neck plate from the MIM line. Do you see a pattern here? IT's a part's bass buddy!!!

I've owned a Cobra as well as other Mustangs, and now own a Hot Rod jazz. I know about parts, and collectable cars and instruments, having sold more than 30 basses/guitars on ebay for profit EVERY time. I won't continue a bickerfest with you. I started this thread for Fender Hot Rod owners who appreciate these fine instruments. I'm sure we'd all appreciate it if we could have a thread without a heckler. Thanks.

TROLLING! I've been on this forum for seven years! the last thing in life I am is a troll! I've had 15 Fenders in the last 4 years and still own 11! I KNOW WHAT A PART BASS IS DUDE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Grow up! This forum is not about heckling, it's about enlightenment and help from other bassplayers. BTW I don't buy basses to sell, I buy basses to play! I don't buy the flavor of the month basses or the basses that make people go ooh! I play meat and potatoes basses and let my talent do the rest!!!

I don't ever plan to sell my Hot Rod. But I've been playing for 20 years and do change instruments from time to time. And, I also repair older instruments for fun and resell them, if I don't play them enough to keep them. Once again, this thread WAS started by ME for OWNERS and those who can play nice.
