Fender 1963 Precision Electronics

Hi all,

I've recently picked up a 1963 built precision. I got it for a good price because it has been re-finished and the pots and wiring have been replaced. Everything else is original though, including pickup!

I can live with the new finish, but please can someone point me in the direction of some new pots/cap that will be as true to the original circuit as possible?

Thanks and kind regards

If you're looking for a reproduction of a vintage cap without the drift/leakage/deterioration/aging that occurs over 47 years, Luxe makes them. And if I'm not mistaken the period correct cap is .1uf not .047uf.

If you're looking for actual vintage components, there are some folks who collect and sell these things but the premium can be quite hefty. There are some random sellers on ebay but I would start with a call/email to Chris Klein of Klein pickups. He's got quite a collection. http://www.kleinpickups.com/

From a purely functional standpoint there's nothing special about vintage pots & caps except age and wear. But using vintage correct parts (or at least maintaining the period correct appearance) is beneficial should you wish to sell the bass down the road.
