Fender 60th Anniversary Precision vs. Fender American Standard

The price the guy has set on the bass is 1520 euros, or almost 2100 USD as of today. What do you guys think? I guess the price will sound absurdly high for any American but I'm interested in their opinion as well. I think it is too high, but it's not easy to find this model around here. I isn't sold by Thomann or any of my regular dealers. Thomann sells the Am Std Precision for 1385 euros, and aesthetically I like it more than the 60th. If the sound and feel is equivalent, I might settle for the Standard. Cheers.

The price is high in most of Europe. I paid USD 1000,- in the US and it feels like a bargain.
I compared it to a beautiful `58 American Vintage. From looks alone it was a no brainer, but the sound and the feel of the 60th Anniversary won me over completely. So I left the shop with the 60th Anniversary. It is the best P-bass I`ve ever played.

1000 USD is equivalent to 725 euros. For that price difference, I could book a trip to whatever is the greatest guitar store in the US, spend a week there as a tourist, and buy the 60th and I'd still have like 300-400 euros to spare. Maybe I'll end up buying it here, but boy what a difference. I want to check out at least the American Standard, and oh boy are the American Vintage ones beautiful with their pickup and bridge covers. I'd like to test one of those as well. Aesthetically it is my favourite bass right now.

Figured I should update my comment from page one.

I bought the 60th, going on my third year with it. It is still my number one, and pretty much nothing would get me to give it up. It's the perfect bass for me.

Love my 60th. Even though I play my other P alot more I will always have a deep love for my 60th

I have both, and the 60th is a superior bass. I'm not too crazy about having to be careful about chipping the nitro finish, and the 50s styling, but it's built better and sounds better. Trans blond over ash is super sweet.

I am currently considering buying a 60th, but the store didn't have an Am Std to test one against the other. I'm from Spain and the 60th was bought by the store owner for him, but he's willing to sell it. It has been used few times, but he adjusted the pickup and string height, and some screws in the pickguard seem to have been removed and screwed back (they look a little bit twisted). Plus, the bass makes a little humming noise through the amp when I'm not touching any metallic part of it, and it sounds like it has a lower output volume than other basses.

I have the 60th Anniv. P, and I've had various '08> Am. Std. P's and J's. All good quality basses. My thinking though is that if you like the aesthetics of the Am. Std. better than the 60th, get the Am. Std. Save yourself a couple hundred euros and get the one you like better. Sounds like a no-brainer to me.

I'm a traditionalist in that I love the look of the "standard" P's & J's. But I also love the look of the 60th. But you like one better than the other, so go that route. Try a couple though if possible, and pick the one that best speaks to you. Keep us posted!

Oh man- is this post ever belated!! But I wanted to say that back in 2013 or so, I purchased a 2011 60th Anniversary P-Bass on eBay without realizing it, as it was not advertised as such. I only noticed it this past summer when I happened to look at the neck plate on which was emblazoned "60th Anniversary".

Mine is in the Candy Cola finish with a rosewood fretboard.

I did find something interesting about the neck having read that these models had the graphite reinforcement rods to help stabilize them, a feature that was not incorporated in the American Standard series until around 2012. Only certain special and limited edition models had them prior to that, such as the 50th Anniversary Jazz bass.
