Fender '70s Precision Bass

WOW!! I'm thoroughly impressed! Setup was fantastic, not a flaw anywhere that I can see, and it weighs 8lbs even!!! What a bargain!!
It'll weigh about 8.5 after I get thru putting all my stuff on her.... have 4 different packages coming full of black hardware and a pickguard

It needs white pickup covers..
I don't think the white would match the Olympic white paint color, could be wrong though. I would black it out and use solid black pickup covers. These basses looks dead sexy when strung with black strings too. I've never played any coated strings, but I might try some black beauties just for looks (I had some tapewounds on for a short time). Keep the pictures coming!
I just bought a 105-50 set of Chromes for it earlier. Hate to seem "typical" what w/ doing the whole P w/ flats thing, but I AM in a cover band. And a LOT of the tunes we play need P basses w/ flats :-D. I found a light set in my string box 100-45 that were too short for my 35" bass at the time, so I made a 105,85,65,45 mixed set cause I like the more balanced tension of heavier Es and As, plus we tune a half step down for most of our tunes.
My strings of choice are typically stainless DRs or MTD rounds but I just can't get any of my P basses to sound like I want w/ SS roundwounds. Granted, I'm very new to P basses.... spent many years hating them because they usually have that 1.75" nut width that I hate. Anyways, flats seem to work best for me, plus they last for years!

Well, I've gotten one package, 3 more to go, then mine will get her makeover.... and a nice photoshoot.
Put Chromes on it the other day, turned the truss a bit to flatten out the neck. I'll drop the saddles a smidge when I get the new bridge. She was setup pretty well w/ the Fender strings that she came with, but I'll fine tune the bass after I'm done.

Just a heads-up - it looks like maybe these have switched to MIM. I was looking at Sweetwater and the serial number on the white one looked totally different, so I looked at the pictures (of an actual bass in stock) and the country of manufacture is no longer by the neck-body joint, it's on the back of the headstock and MIM.
The sunburst they have in stock is MIJ.

I had noticed a while ago (month or two?) that Sweetwater was no longer listing the white one - I thought maybe it had gone out of production and was no longer available, but it looks like they brought it back MIM...
I just checked it out on their site. Bummer. MIJ Fender is one of the best deals in bass-dom. My geddy lee and '70s P are incredible instruments.

I was told by my local Fender dealer 4 weeks ago that white ones were no longer being made. 2 days after I ordered mine from MF, I checked their website and white was no longer available there too.
For those on then fence, I'd suck the last few MIJs up ASAP even if it's at full price.... they're worth it!

I love mine. The only gripe I have is that screw holes for the E tuner are slightly off and the Hipshot extender key I bought won't work right due to binding. A bummer, but I can live with it.
I wish I had the money to buy another one. My 70s p neck is the most comfortable neck I've ever put my hands on (and I love the look too!).
Although as much as I'd love to have a back up in case anything ever happens to the first one, I guess that would be a bit greedy of me. who am I to deprive someone else the opportunity to own one of these awesome basses when I already have one and the MIJ supply suddenly appears limited.
Get out there and buy 'em while you can. And if you have one, but don't like the neck. Let me know. I'll take it off your hands post-haste!
