This is untrue. The degree of roundover is vintage correct, but this also has nothing to do with what we're talking about. The issues are that the edges of the guard do not follow the edges of the body, and that the spacing between the edges of the guard and the edges of the body are inconsistent.

The perimeter of the guard doesn't have the same curves as the perimeter of the body – and the edge of the guard is far from the edge of the body in some places, but close to it in others.

I got mine today, and it's going back.

Neck twisted in pocket. Fixable in three seconds, but...what about the supposed 51 point inspection? We all should know that this is B.S., ever since Sweetwater got bought by private equity firm.

Aforementioned poor pickguard shape and placement has been confirmed.

I would keep it with these two issues...however, there was also some poor sanding prior to finishing, in which the ash grains were unevenly sanded on a few points of the body roundover, resulting in a "waves" in the wood prior to finishing. This mistake never should have left the factory, and certainly never should have been accepted into stock by Sweetwater. Also, a hairline finish crack by the neck pocket, and some bad finish marks from the fret crowning file. Someone along the line has to hold the previous people in the line to account, and unfortunately, it has to be me in this case.

Sounds like pretty standard bad quality control from Fender, which at this price point is now unacceptable. I’m sure this bass will be available on Sweetwater in a few days as B stock or open box.

I would be inclined to spend another grand and get a used CS NOS.

Honestly, this is the best sounding demo i heard from the 75th Player P.

Correct me but the string-thru ferrules should be not flush, but a wee bit recessed into the body if we're nitpicking "originality" (and we def are). At least they were on my '55 and '57.

They were nominally flush. There was variation, of course, not to mention that they may have sunken deeper over the decades.

I actually stopped by guitar center to pick up some speaker cables and tried the diamond dust player P. I was actually kind of impressed. The finish wes better in person than the pics. (my big gripe was it should have had a matching headstock.) The Thunderbolt pickups with flat pole pieces actually sounded pretty good as well. I think aside from the color, the pickups are allegedly made special for this model. This is part of the price upgrade.

I’ve played a couple real 50’s P’s, the body was not my gripe with them. I’ve only ever played the 53-54’s. A couple of them had a V neck and I didn’t really enjoy that. The 51 baseball ball seems a little more forgiving.
