Probably why it makes sense to do this in a limited run. The people who like it are probably going to really like it. Sort of like how I bought an Antigua squire because I'm one of those sickos.

Fender 75th Anniversary Collection Basses

The links in my original post have been marked as invalid and removed. I found the basses in the German Fender store and changed the links to point to Fender US. Celebrating 75 years of Precision Bass history with three different models and pickup configurations: a single coil, a split coil and a P/J.
The Am Pro II PJ says it has anniversary V-Mod II pickups.
I wonder what that actually means, because the P pickup is visibly different from the regular V-Mod II, in that it appears to have the same size, and profile pole pieces in both halves.
Nothing really new, nothing really interesting, nothing I'd even take inside if I found one on my front porch tomorrow like an abandoned puppy.

The flip side to that POV is who in their right mind would throw $800 + into a chinese Squier just to mimic the the Fender Ltd ? That's a fool's errand and a guaranteed $ loss. The Squier (like any budget guitar), is a "play-it-as-is without sinking more into it" bass (IMO), and a "hope you never decide to sell it because you'll take a beating" bass. Despite the upside down value numbers, I'm looking for a nice used CV s/c Squier "just because".
As far as I can see, Fender isn't saying how many Ltd 51's they're making, but I bet they sell them all....to folks who have the disposable income and a keen interest, of course. On the upside (if there can even be one a $3K) the Ltd 51 can be expected to retain most of its value and could possibly keep up with inflation, going forward. (the Adam Clayton sig Fenders come to mind)
Further, I'd bet that to commission a custom builder to make an exact replica of the Ltd. 51 Fender would easily be in the $3K (or more) range. (and don't forget to have him include 'slot head' screws...phillips head ones just won't do!)

I'm almost through packing for my Fools Errand Beach Vacation, but on the way down there, Pls tell me where the 75 is $2400 better. I get it to a point, custom shop, better materials, more time to get it right, etc. But really, it's six times better than the Squier? My $320 2014 cic Squier Matt Freeman P are perfect enough for me...... And great for collection too.

You can go to Fender's Mod shop and build a PJ with choices for fretboards, even get block inlays, choice of colors, pups, etc... for 2049. You won't have a 75th anniversary logo, but is a 75th Anniversary logo worth an extra 700 bucks?IFender Basses! So, I’m Buying A Limited Edition PJ Bass!
And when it comes to production numbers, your mod shop PJ will be more limited edition than the 75th anniversary.
Sparkle finishes? Gold hardware? A reissue so classic it has a single coil?
My wallet rarely feels so safe. It's almost like they added the gold hardware to the AM P II specifically so I wouldn't want one! It's okay, there are other f-branded PJs I have my eye on.

Fender's ignorance / neglect regarding 5 stringed basses is always mind blowing. Good for my wallet though. Nowadyas I usually don't even look at the brand anymore despite liking their instruments.
