fender aerodyne active pickups???

Yes, unless you wanted to re-route the bass.
What kind of tone are you looking for? Tone is subjective so what one person thinks is good may sound like crap to you.

I want more of a punchy sound to my aerodyne as I play slap and I can't afford a new bass really unless I sell this one but I really don't want to so I was thinking whether this will give my bass a more punchy slap tone? I don't know much about pickups I am just curious

I have Invalid Link Removed installed in my Aerodyne. It's relatively easy to install but the output jack is a bit long (because of the switch) and a battery only just barely fits in - no hope of using 2 for 18v unless you're willing to do some routing. Sounds great too!
Well compared to the "original series" counterpart the x series p pickup sounds empty and hollow, no bite or bark whatsoever. or it could be me, who knows

Also you can just install a preamp and keep the passive pickups, the end result woulf still be active.
Saving for a new bass would be best tho.

It depends really, how does the bass sound accoustically? And do you like how it plays?
If it's good to go on both of those, then sure, play about with the pickups.
Another option, easier and cheaper, is trying a different set of strings. Or heck, even playing with your amp settings.
It just seems odd to me, to make a bass active, just for the sake of making it active (plenty of passive pickups and setups out there that'll give you a great slap tone).

I have done this with good results.... the reason for the endeavour was to build a totally modified Aerodyne for the sake of just doing it, plus I wanted to be able to have the stupid low tones that are accessable when needed. I just satin sanded this neck so please mind the dusty photos.....
I also free-style made a recess on the contoured face and loaded a Schaller bridge, as well as Schaller tuners.
The PUs are EMG active 1989 era P/J set up from a Peavey Foundation S parts bass I had around. You will need to make a battery box unless you can retain the mini newer 25k pots because there simply is not room. BTW mine is a JDM variation with the pick gurad so battery butcher job was hidden out of sight. Conclusion is that it now sounds with amzing clarity and the gain in all frequencys is increased. My observations is such that EMG pick ups have the ability reproduce fundamentlas with un-parallel clarity at the expense of individualistic tonal identitiy, such as a P bass can or J bass can. It is what it is. The only other sterile sounding but much likable tone I can make a parallel to my modified Aerodyne now is that like an XL2 Steinberger..... of which I already own and has active EMGs as well..... a nice surprise. Would I do it again?, Yes!
