Standard MIJ, black w/cream binding no pick guard, no control plate. (And yes, the plastic is still on the tuner knobs... :wacky:)

Soooooo…shiiiiiiiny…

Yep, that's an Export Edition, alright! Well done!

Ah, a beautiful, pristine Export model. Baby that sucker! I've yet to see a used one without some hard earned mojo somewhere.
Fixed that for you. :D

Finally got it home! As far as I know, it’s a non-export ‘dyne from 2012. Pretty much perfect condition with no scratches, dents or dinks. Attached, of course, is the proof, might post up a more artsy picture later!

That's very nice! There is a guy who is offering to straight up trade me his all black Japan Aerodyne Jazz with pickguard and upgraded with active EMG pickups, a HiMass bridge, and Hipshot D tuner for my CIJ Fender Jaguar (the original all J pickup version). My Jag is in my profile pic and it's mostly stock except for I added a BadAss bridge and black pickguard. My Jag has been wonderful and it's been my main bass for about 12 years now. But as I'm getting older I think I'd prefer something lighter and a little less cumbersome (all those switches and controls!). Trying to decide if it's the right thing to do and if it's a good even trade. I could just buy it off him, but I really don't need to spend that money right now with Christmas on the horizon and being the father of three little ones.

Thanks! It depends on how sentimental you are I guess. The aerodyne is definitely lighter than my active bass (Overwater/Tanglewood contemporary Jazz) and has a growl to it! Just started playing some prog again and the tone is perfect for recording, I haven’t upgraded anything, it’s all stock except for the strap pins which I changed to fit schaller strap locks.
Saying that, I don’t think they’re particularly rare so it won’t be the last chance you have to pick one up, there’s usually a handful up for sale on reverb.

I see lots of Aerodynes without pickguards, but the one he is offering has one along with the regular Jazz control plate and jack configuration like yours. And of course this one has active EMG's now as well. I mistakenly called the bridge upgrade a "HiMass" but it's something else. Anyway, with all the upgrades it's a very interesting offer that I am seriously considering.

Looks great! Yeah, probably because the “export model”, given out to dealers outside of Japan has that setup with no pickguard and Stratocaster style jack input. (This forum has a wealth of extra info on this). I don’t know if I was just lucky to be looking at the right time to pick up a non-export model in the UK!
One thing I would say though is if you’re considering it because it’s lighter, you might find that all the upgrades make it heavy anyway. I don’t have any data for this, just my two cents.

Dam 1st red one I have ever seen. Quite nice. I prefer mine with the strat jack plate.
Of course mine is black didn’t even know they had other colors!!

It just caught my eye when flicking through fender jazz basses on reverb, then standard jazz’s didn’t look the same!
I have a feeling the black is really big with the aerodyne guitar range too. I really considered buying a black one actually. Also, in my opinion, red goes better if I decide to put the chrome bridge cover on it.

That's purdy -- is it for sale?

Nope, this one is mine, though if I ever do sell it, I’ll put a post on here.
Doubt I’ll do that though, it’s gone straight to my main bass. Thought I’d never choose anything over my overwater active jazz but it just records so well. The only things I had to get used to was the neck is a bit wider (more like a P bass) and the pickups are too recessed into the body to rest my thumb on.
I haven’t put the bridge cover on because you have to drill holes, though I might try and double sided tape it on and see how it looks/feels

Well now that I look again that does appear to be a HiMass bridge.
Yep, that's the current Fender Hi-Mass Bridge model. As for concerns over it's weight, you could always install a bent-plate bridge and some Hipshot Ultralite tuners. That'd shave off a few ounces or so. ;)

True. I think it will be fine. I'm sure it's lighter than my Jaguar with BadAss II bridge on it and my RIC 4003. I've picked up the export models at the local GC and those felt really light compared to what I'm used to playing. So even with the added HiMass, 9volt battery/pre-amp, and Hipshot D tuner upgrades adding some heft I think it will be fine. I think I'm gonna do this trade even though one day it will make me sad I'm sure.
