Mama mia, beautiful! My Subaru is grey so I could also do a photo shoot like this with a Grey Tele and a Grey J.

Thinking about the important things!

I will say having the P bass for 4-5 days made me appreciate having the two pickup layout of the Jazz for anchoring.

2) I currently have a Grey Tele and a Chocolate Burst Strat is coming on Wednesday. Do I match the Grey Tele with a Grey J, the Chocolate SSS with a Chocolate SSS, or get nasty with a White P? I will say someone in this thread did a photoshoot with their Dolphin Jazz and man it looked very sharp.

I apologize asking so many questions, but I don't want to make any beginner errors and you guys have good insights.

I would prefer the white but only in a PJ or Jazz. In this case it would have to be the Gray Jazz for me.

Right after posting this, I embarked on an online hunting trip for a strap. I almost pulled the trigger on this Kliq Air-Cell strap, but decided to get one of these Levy's "Right Height" Neoprene straps instead. The price, which was $8.25 below retail + free shipping, could not be ignored. Even more so, though, I'm intrigued by the ability to make easy, fine-tuned adjustments to the length.

Well we know you're digging the rosewood board and it seems you're leaning Jazz and trying to get us to convince you to jump. Either way I see it you're going to land Aerodyne and get a great quality instrument. Your first P had some electronic issues which is just a fluke and could have happened to any of ours. As long as its not a consistent issue then either one is worth it.

I consider myself a Precision guy and they're certainly not a one trick pony. It's just a matter of finding one with the right pickups and personally the Aerodyne pickups are a bit more modern so if you're looking for said vintage pony, you may not get what you're after. Alot of things can help such as eq, strings, amps so don't let it deter you from grabbing one if you're feeling it. Most of our initial sound analysis was when the stock strings were on. That stuff can be tweaked down the road. However the most important feature of any bass to me is the neck and these basses certainly have that going for them with that smooth satin finish.

I consider myself a Precision guy but after purchasing my Dolphin Jazz, the Js out number the Ps 3-2. I have no regrets at all as its a great bass and actually the cheapest one I've bought. Way better quality to price ratio than Made in Mexico. Something it seems you're already aware of.

I posted some photos of my Dolphin when I got it and mentioned how it reminded me of my first truck. This is what I think of when I see it.

You summed up my feelings perfectly. I think I’m subconsciously asking you guys to push me to a certain bass and finish. My gut is saying Jazz due to the versatility, more rosewood options, and it sounds like this Aerodyne P isn’t exactly giving you guys the renowned P sound (kind of a big reason to go P IMO). My decision is probably boiling down to finish at this point. Just need to determine Dolphin Grey vs the Chocolate Burst. Maybe it’d be wise for me to wait until my Chocolate Burst SSS to come tomorrow so I can compare Grey vs Burst before making a decision.

I liked the P Bass I had for 4-5 days. The neck and fretboard felt great. The white finish was eye popping too. One ding against the P was again the lack of comfortable finger anchors. I never owned a P so it was cool to pick one up. As others have said, simplicity is sometimes beautiful.

I grew up poor in my teen years so I struggle with spending money sometimes even though I’m doing well now. It’s like an OCD level of double checking information, getting feedback, etc. I wish I could just make decisions without doing NASA levels of analysis on everything.

I like all the colors but wish a couple things were different. For instance the Dolphin grey jazz should have the cream pickups like the Strat. I also think the speed green metallic Precision should've had a Rosewood board. These are just my opinions and honestly while I like the Dolphin Jazz and White Precision, I think the colors would look better reversed so White Jazz and Grey Precision would have been awesome. That being said the Dolphin Jazz has rosewood so it's different enough from the maple Tele. Just have to decide like you said whether or not you like the Dolphin or Chocolate more because one way or another you'll have two with the same finish.

i honestly could see Fender Japan purposefully going with slightly less pleasing combinations of finishes/fretboarss/pickup colors in order to be quirky. I agree with your assessment on swapping some colors on certain models or having certain colors have different fretboards.

As for color choice, the Dolphin Grey / rosewood combo on my J is beautifully modern. Especially if you can get a deep, dark (almost ebony) rosewood board.
This combo really accentuates the modern design of the Aerodyne. IMO (as an architect), the Choco-burst is traditional…not what the essence of Aero design is about. And…my crossover is also a warm silver, pewter-metallic color w/ chrome accents!

I'm going to give them a call to see how many are left. If there's a good backlog of inventory I will wait until the Strat comes tomorrow before making a choice. I keep going back and forth based on what photos I look at so I'm probably going to need to just see them in person to lock in a choice.

UPDATE - Called FGW. They have 20+ of the Choco and Grey Jazz as well as 20+ of the White P. I'm going to chill and stop thinking about it until I get the Strat tomorrow.

We have multiple Aerodyne Special P Bass guitars in Hod Rod Burst available and selling them individually. The pictures are representative of the one you will get. They are being offered as used/mint in their factory box and excellent condition with no factory warranty. Because we have so many for sale in their boxes we will not be able to weigh individual guitars.
