Just remember, theirs many people here who bought one of these at $1400+. Some even only got two for $2400+. I think you would be coming out ahead. For what it's worth I paid $1800+ for two Mexican Fenders and the Aerodynes blow those out of the water.

Right now it appears we're trending towards a buyers market and it's just an overall bad time to sell. However, how often do you see mint condition Japanese Fenders for under $600? Buy Once Cry Once.

But man it'd be cool if I could double my Aerodyne count for another $1k, lol! I'm turning in my resignation at my current employer tomorrow morning. Not sure if they'll want/need me to work out a 2 week notice or not. I'm hoping they'll just let me go ASAP. The sooner I can start at the place I'm going next, the sooner I'll have more play money for Aerodynes, lol! I need a Flipper and a metallic snot Precision!

I had a similar problem with my 2012 Aerodyne (with the Jazz Bass control plate). On that bass Fender used the control plate as a common ground for the pots, with no dedicated ground wire to the jack. The ground connection between the tone control and the control plate was bad, due to oxidation. In the end I added a dedicated ground wire, and the tone control then functioned properly. In short, check to see whether the tone control’s connections are good.

I've heard this story over the years, too. Something was either rushed n' fumbled during initial production or some bad mod-work happened. Usually, a little bit of patience and some TLC make most of the problems go away.

Buzz from a cranky single-coil? Well, that's a whole different problem...

Thanks for this. I ordered the Grey Jazz yesterday and still chewing on if I want the P.

How much does your tone knob function? I ask because I think mine didn’t work on the P Bass I had for a few days, but then I saw numerous threads regarding other P Basses with people asking, “does the tone knob do anything?” I posted a recording in this thread earlier playing a G on the 12th Fret of the G string and fully moved the tone knob - almost no change in tone.

I have some La Bella LTFs coming. Was planning to put them on the Jazz. If I like them I may get a second pair for the P Bass or try the ones you mentioned.

My tone control works great. I would suggest opening up the back and checking for any bad connections. Second step is to check the pots with a multimeter.

Thank you! It is not lost on me how well this transition is going, and I am very thankful for it, as well as incredibly excited for where I'm going! I had "the talk" with my current boss today and all went well, thankfully. I will also be getting a nice PTO payout "bonus" as I leave my current job at the end of this week.... I'm VERY tempted to turn all of into more Aerodynes. Maybe even a blue Strat to match my Jazz, too.

Looking (virtually at this point, since no local dealers have any stock) at the Aerodyne Jazz bass as a purchase option. I played an Aerodyne P-Bass (that a local dealer has) but really want to play the J-Bass.

I have a couple questions:

* Does the Aerodyne J-Bass have a beveled body (particularly where the picking hand arm lays over the body edge)?

* Are all of the Aerodyne J-Basses made in Japan?

It's a bit of a drive to the dealer that has these in stock and I'd like to know the answers to these questions before I make the trip.

Not a beveled body, but it is arch top, making it slightly more comfortable than a slab body.
All Aerodynes are made in Japan. Some are made specifically (no pickguard jazz) to be exported to the U.S. market. Other Aerodynes (pickguard jazz) are made for sale only in Japan.

Others more knowledgeable should be able to weigh-in on these questions, but there are a handful of items that all Aerodynes should check off;

1. Radius'd body...check!
2. Made in Japan...BIG CHECK!!

Even with new models and designs, these should be two items that they always live up to.

Like the Aerodyne P-bass, the top of the bass is radiused in the same manner as a fingerboard. (You'll it easiest as you view it from the bottom strap pin.) The back is flat. There is no forearm bevel.

This was my initial analysis when first playing my Aerodyne J. I'm more of a P guy but with that being said the Jazz is absolutely worth it.

So after playing mine a little longer I have only one gripe and it's a personal thing not a knock on the bass itself.The offset jazz body has a tendency to dig into my forearm and it's even more so pronounced and noticeable on the Aerodyne being the edges are more flat as opposed to fat and rounded. A regular body jazz doesn't bother me much at all. However it's really a non issue when I wear long sleeves or just a simple wrist band.

The body is slightly arched, as some have remarked, but there is no bevel as such. Due to the binding the edge of the body is quite sharp, much like on an acoustic guitar. Some find this uncomfortable, some don't. It depends on your playing position and other factors.

For myself, I always either wear short sleeves or long sleeves rolled up, depending on the season. I find resting my bare arm on the bass body uncomfortable no matter the body shape or contouring, so I always wear a wristband when playing. This also mitigates any discomfort from the binding on my Aerodyne.

@SteveAG I figured I would share this to try and help you. The two on the left are Ps and the two on the right are Js. The first one is a regular P body and the second the Aerodyne. Same goes for the third being a regular J body and the fourth being the Aerodyne. It may come across as evident in the pictures but in person side by side you can see the difference. Again, it's nothing that would deter me in anyway from buying one.

Looks like Franklin restocks are starting to slow down. I've been keeping an eye on their Aerodyne stock and I've never seen their selection get this slim. If anyone is debating it might be time to pull the trigger.
