Once I discovered the old Fender-Japan website, it was the equivalent of "dousing myself with GAS". To further flog the metaphor, finding a CAR Non-Export just across the river was "striking the match".

I can't remember if it was on this thread or another one, but I once described my ultimate "absolutely must sell all but one bass" plan as such;

1. Here's the first bass I ever wanted.

2. Here's the first bass I ever owned.

3. If I had to sell all but one bass, here's the one I'd want in tribute to my "first-ever" and my "spirit bass".

I could take even further steps to "max it out" by cannibalizing the pickups, series/parallel wiring harness and Hipshot Drop-D tuner from my "Projekt Blue" parts-bass. Hell, I'd even transfer my vinyl "inlay" stickers, if possible!

If it's any help, Thomann carries them. They even have a B-Stock unit at the moment.

Sorry about the spelling error, Malak. Thank you for the info and links. I guess I should have said "never found it for sale USED in Norway", since even if it was available through stores, second hand would be needed for my budget.

No problem! It's all good. "Malak/Malach" has more celestial undercurrents. "Malek/Malik" has connotations of royalty, and I have no such delusions of grandeur.

I can understand not wanting to spend quite so much money on "an unknown quantity". I hope you get a chance to try one out someday.

When I took the gig from BassGen I didn't have a multi-million dollar business, and six crews running in two regions of the country.

Club numbers haven't been updated in 367 days, and that's just doing you guys a disservice. If you want the job I'll send you the updated list when I finish it Monday.

It's just an old, historical reference. It's what was often proclaimed when one monarch passed away and the next-in-line ascends to The Crown.

Also, it's the title of an album by Enigma. Not a bad album, but in my opinion, not their best effort. (It kinda felt like they were just sorta "jobbing it". )

I would've stepped up to the plate (when do the damn metaphors stop, huh?!), but I'm already managing the Blacktop Club.

Question about knobs...

One of mine popped off tonight and I can't get it to stay on when I push it back onto the post. I think the little black thing still attached to the post is actually supposed to be inside the metal knob but I'm not positive as I've never replaced a knob before.

How do I fix this? Superglue the little black thing inside the metal knob and push both pieces back onto the post?

If you pull off the black part, is it a split post beneath? Mine P has setscrew knobs, so I'm assuming solid shafts on mine...

It LOOKS like the black part is holding on to the pot-shaft. If it were mine, I'd try to remove the black piece first, then glue it back. This way, you don't permanently affix the knob down to the pot, or even worse, the control plate. If that happens, well…I hope you like the volume it's set at!

Yes, it's a split post.

I think I'll try that. The black plastic piece is slightly tacky to the touch, so I think it must've been glued inside the metal knob and just came unstuck.

LOL... I had planned to mod it eventually, but the knobs were never on my list. Maybe they are now...

I think I have lurked in this group for a couple of years, admiring all those beautiful basses, but never had the money for one. I have traded basses along the line, but never got a bargain I could afford for an Aerodyne. I even think my preferences had shifted, and currently I was either looking for a DIY project or a Fender P of some sort. And then an all black "crafted in Japan" Jazz Aerodyne PJ showed up at a very reasonable price. A small ding in the front right below the volume pot, but otherwise pretty gorgeous in the pictures. I am going to check it out on Thursday after work. I keep my fingers crossed that the seller doesn't get a higher bid, making him cancel the deal.

I am sooo excited! I find I just have to have it now. I have tried several PJs before at lower price points, but traded them. Now I just have to have this, I NEED it. Who would have thought, after "all" these years...

Sweet. I love my Aerodyne -- other than a d-tuner its the only bass I've ever owned that I didn't feel the need to mod in any way.
Hopefully this one works out for you -- post pics of course!

I tend to prefer d'Addario Chromes on my basses. Since I probably pick up an Aerodyne this week, I just thought to ask:

Does any of you use or did you try d'Addario Chromes on the Aerodyne? Given that I like the general sound and feel of those strings, is there any reason why I shouldn't use them on the Aerodyne, too?
