Fender Aerodyne Club!

Something interesting. I was looking at Fender's new Japanese website to see how much a new, standard Aerodyne costs. What's interesting is this…there is no "direct marketing/buy straight off the website" mechanism like here in the US. I guess they're keeping the shops and stores "in the loop", so as not to alienate foreign dealers.

Still, with the low cost of the yen right now, it'd come to about $635+shipping, but without Japan-local taxes. Very, very tempting…

Is that about the same price as the mid-scale version?

Have you tried the new Ernie Ball Cobalt Flats? They're quite intriguing! They feel almost identical to the flats I've tried. (I say "almost" because there's a microscopic gap between the ribbons, probably to keep their touted "SLINKY" feel. You get used to it after a while.) However, they sound like rounds, even more so than the D'Addario Half-Wounds I've tried. And I mean way, way more bright than I'd ever expect a flatwound string to sound like. :wideyed:

If you want bright, aggressive sounding flats (sounds like an oxymoron, right?), but want that "feel", I say give 'em a try.

I like the idea of a bright string that isn't quite so 'clanky' -- like what a flat wound gives you. I'll definitely have to try out a set.

Sign me up for a medium scale in Black or Gun Metal Grey!!!!!! Haha. I have far too many basses right now -- I have so many that some are in cases because I have no room to hang them...

These must be pretty rare because I've never seen any other aerodynes with the DiMarzio Collection pickups. They play and sound amazing.

Now you have me picturing a three-piece band, one where even the drummer has quilted, trans-finished shells! I guess they'd have to be called "'Dyning Out"? :bag:

I could be wrong, but I believe the DiMarzio Aerodynes were the only long-scale, four-string models.

Do a search for "aerodyne jazz bass" on Youtube. You'll get well over a dozen hits, but don't just leave it to the first few to tell the whole story.

I am typically a TI-guy myself but I have GHS Precision Flats on my Amber non-export version. I have had trouble finding a home for these strings but they work well on this bass.

Yes, it's a shame, especially when you factor in how long I GASsed for a Candy Apple Red/Non-Export 'Dyne, as well as the curious circumstances in which I got it. But I must face up to the fact that…
  1. I've babied it so much, it's hardly left it's case over the past year.
  2. I already have three other P/J's, including my black, Export Aerodyne (my first-ever-bass…ain't sellin' that anytime soon!).
  3. I have two parts-bass projects on the back-burner. Some of that money could bring them that much closer to completion.
  4. BILLS!! :banghead:
