Fender Aerodyne Jazz Bass questions .

Was considering one of these because it seems a lot run light weight , are they pretty nice bass,s ? Can a pickguard be mounted on one , or does the body not work with that because of contours ? whats your thoughts on these ? Thanks in advance .

o and is the neck Jazz like ? wanting to avoid the big P kind . it seems I also read once of people saying the binding bothered there arm ??

I own a medium scale version, and love it. Yes, they’re very lightweight, though not surprisingly so.

I find them very comfortable, but it totally depends on where you wear your bass, your body shape, and your arm position. It’s a very personal thing for everyone.

Hit Wikipedia for more info on Fender Aerodynes. They list all the various models—there are both pickguard and no pickguard versions, though the black no-pickguard model is super prevalent in the US, there are a number of different flavors and colors in the Japan versions.

Others may be able to comment on whether one can add a guard to the no-pg models.

Interestingly, both the aerodyne jazz and the aerodyne precision version have jazz-like necks. 1.5” at the nut.

It has a jazz neck (1.5), but it is not the typical 9.5 radius. It is a more rounded 7.5 radius, similar to the older vintage Jazz.

I have the non-export model, with the pickguard, and it has an arched top. As far as I know, the export models (without the pickguard) has the same arched top. I don't know of anyone who has put a pickguard on these, but I don't see why it wouldn't be possible.

ok, so sounds like it would work , ive done a little searching and cant come up with nothing for a aftermarket guard , anyone know where to get one ?? its not a deal breaker , but I think it would look great with a pickguard , iam close to pulling the trigger on one of these to see if I like it .

I found an aftermarket guard on ebay for my non-export models and they're nice. They would likely fit just fine on the black USA models but the problem I think you might have would be fitting a control plate as the routing is on the back on those.
