Time for a survey!
I was just wondering what most of you Fender players buy, the American Standard J/P or the Deluxe version (or do you prefer a non-US version)?

I used to think that the good old passive Fenders greatly outnumber their active deluxe siblings, but I'm starting to doubt that, as I'm under the impression that most players nowadays choose active EQ.

Also, in your experience, is the Am. Deluxe an overall better quality instrument, or is it just the preamp and neck binding/inlays that make the difference?

I've owned several American Standards (1996, 2003, 2006, 2008 and 2010). They are great basses. The 2010 I returned, it was perfect, but I had a chance to get a '57 AVRI that is a beautiful bass, for less money, so I went for it and am glad I did. Having said that the new Deluxe P basses look awesome, and a bargain compared to the Am Standards (which are also well-priced).

Bill the 2010 fender jazz you returned where did you purchase it?
Just wondering because I got a great deal on a American Fender Jazz 2010 from Musician's Friend. Someone returned it and they marked it down plus a 15% discount. I got it for $850.00 total.
