Fender American Deluxe Jazz noise

Hey guys,

I recently bought that bass. I really like the sound and playability but there is this ugly, static noise when the preamp is turned on.
I did a little bit of research and this problem seems to be a kind of common. So shielding or the lack there of appears to be what causes the noise. Out of curiosity I removed the pickguard and noticed that black paint inside of the bass. Is that the actual shielding?
Unfortunately I have ablsolutely no idea in that department and I would like to apologize if that is a super dumb question .
If there is actually no shielding applied, is it possible to do that by myself or should I consult someone who knows what he is doing?

That black stuff is shielding paint; Fender shields them from the factory. It's possible that the shielding could be done better, but....

If your American Deluxe is anything like the 4-5 I've had over the years, then that noise is likely the result of a noisy preamp. I went down the rabbit hole of trying to correct that noise many times with no success. Inevitably, I would either flip the bass for something less noisy or I would replace the entire preamp with a Bart or Aguilar.

Thanks for your reply. That's a bummer. Neck, weight, playability and the low b string are amazing.
Did you also experience this strange effect, that your position in room increases or decreases the noise. And the fact that the way you hold the bass e.g. horizontally decreases the noise also? Further the noise occurs even if the preamp is turned off but much less obvious. The distance to electronic devices e.g. my laptop also
increases the noise.
