Fender American Deluxe Precision Five

Mine is set up that way also. The low B has enough flex that it can make contact with the magnet if you don't drop that end pretty low.

Congrats, BTW, on picking up a great axe!

+1, my pickup is the same, its designed that way - I gues it sort of makes sense when you consdier how the low B string will vibrate compared to your high G for example....give it a slap, you won't be dissapointed!

as for the screw thing the problem for me was tracking down the correct fender telephone number. I called fender direct in the UK and they sent me a couple of srews at no cost - I suspect from what they said that they pinched them from another bass that was in the warehouse at the time. If this is regular practice that explanis why you might be missing one screw completely as opposed to it coming loose in the case! Also another tip, having spoken to Fender on the phone I emailed them with a picture so they knew exactly what screw I was talking about...they were very helpful. :)

Just thought I would pass this on regarding my Fender Am Dlx P-V, which I received last Thursday, 04/06/06...

The Missing Screw- Last Friday I stopped-in at a couple of stores that are considered Fender 'authorized' repair shops... my axe is missing one of the little screws that sets beneath the tuning-key shaft of these so-called "deluxe lightweight tuners." It was actually missing two screws, but I found one lying in the molded case that came with this bass. Both stores had impressive assortments of screws for just about any instrument-type application, but neither one of them had the screw I needed.

The second store I visited told me that this particular screw wasn't listed as a spare parts item that he could order from Fender. He suggested I call Fender on my own, and he gave me a phone number. I called Fender and got a hold of some guy named Ed, and I explained my situation to him. Well... his first comment to me was, "You'll need to have one of our 'authorized' repair shops order this for you..." I told him no... and I repeated my situation to him, but I added this comment at the end, "Ed, the easiest way to resolve this problem would be for you to simply place two of these screws (I want a backup...) in an envelope and mail them to me. After all, this bass now makes my third Fender instrument, and you do want me to continue being a happy Fender owner... don't you?"

Well... 'ol Ed had to ask me again where this screw came from, and he then asked me if he could put me on hold... which he did for about 10 minutes... I'm on a cell phone! He came back on the phone, apologized for having me on hold for so long, and then said he wanted to make sure he was getting the right part, so he asked for my phone number and said he would call me back. About half-an-hour later, Ed calls to say he found the screws, asked me for an address, and said he would send them to me at no charge. While they haven't arrived yet, and this is only Monday, I'm a man of faith, and I have faith in this man... so we will see...

The Blemish- I bought this bass from Musician's Friend as a 'blemished' offering. They had reduced their regular asking price by over three-hundred bucks! I had mentioned in a previous post within this thread that I had gone over this axe with a visual fine-toothed comb, and I couldn't find anything wrong with it... no nicks or scratches. Well... apparently my eyes aren't as sharp as they once were, 'cuz I do believe I found the blemish. I discovered it when I was replacing the screw that I had found in the case. My fingers happend to feel an ever so slight imperfection in the finish at the very end/top of the head stock. Seeing as how the entire neck and fretboard are maple, one might understand how this would've been a little tough to see, but you can actually 'feel it'... Oh well... it's the best little three-hundred dollar nick I've ever felt!

I had gigs last Friday and Saturday, and I played this axe at both of them... I'm loving it so far! :hyper:

All around, a MIA Dlx P-bass is my most used bass. I've owned a first year model (which actually had a Jazz Bass-sized neck taper), a 1996, and the 2006 that I just got last week. Though I think that they are the ultimate tone machines, I have one issue with them:

With all of these models, the electronics can be very noisy--especially if you accidentally touch the magnet poles on the pups while playing. Has anyone else had this problem?

To combat this problem, I ordered a covered set of p-bass pickup covers and a pair of covered bridge jazz pickup covers from WD. After modifying the two Jazz covers, I was able to make one "double jazz" sealed cover for the bridge humbucker. With all pickup poles now covered, the noise is greatly reduced.

Doesn't the 5er not have real JJ pups?
Anyways, here's my 4er...

Whoa, nice!! Is that Transparent Teal?

I really like the white pickguard on that bass, and I DON'T like white pickguards normally. I think it works very well. Even so, have you ever given any thought to other pickguards options? I'm always interested in new color/pickguard combos.

Honestly, now that I think about it, I can't think of anything that would look better. Killer bass! Any soundclips?

The screws finally arrived today. As I had previously mentioned, I spoke with 'Ed' at Fender last week Friday. The postmark on the envelope is dated Apr 10th; he had them mailed last Monday. Today is Saturday, so all seems to be about right... at least as far as the USPS is concerned...

...I can now say that my Montego Black is finally complete, and I remain very happy with it! It sure has a phat bottom... kinda brings J-Lo to mind... Hmmmm, maybe that's what I'll call this bass from now on...:smug:

I've considered black, but I don't feel like spending money when I already like the white one pretty good. I'm also too lazy to change the pickguard on a P bass because it has all the control knobs attached to it.

The pickguards on transparent teal P's are mint, not white.
I guess it minty white, but it's closer to white. Maybe more like an aged white.

I love this bass too! And as alot have said, I've found it's my turn to, do it all, workhorse that I use for ANYTHING and I can fall back on when all else fails. Lovely tone, although I feel that the J Humbucker is a bit weak in volume.

Here's a pic I took last year.... must say that since I bought her (2004) the wood has began to age nicely :)

I assumed that the whole point of the Fender AD P was to have both the P and MM tone in one package. My question is that if the soloed bridge JJ pup sound like a soloed bridge J pup, then what's the point of a JJ pup?

Im my experience the best sounds I can get out of my deluxe 4 are blended sounds. In fact I never solo either pick-up. Maybe Fender where not thinking about the solo'd bridge sounds when they used this pick up but the sounds that could be created by using a combination of the two when they dropped this in.

Is it the same pick-up as on the big block?

I bought a p5 delux when they first came out. I already had and still do have a SR5. I already had and still do have a P4. What I was wanting was a pbass tone in a 5 string config. The P5 delux that I had just didn't deliver a true p-bass tone or feel. When kicking in the bridge PU the tone changed to a more modern type tone but didnt have the cut or grind of the SR5. This bass just didn't quite do it for me and I ended up selling it.
