Fender American Standard Jaguar Bass

I was wondering if you've had a chance to try one of these yet, and I'm wondering how it compares to your Custom P/J Jaguar. The pickup spacing and layout look similar (minus the Quan Bridge).

Well, I think this bass is a great idea. Not to say that they poached my idea, but I MIGHT have been the first person to suggest it to them and have it built as such. You're welcome, Fender. But that's fine, I'm just glad they did build it finally. Haven't tried one yet.

$2,100?! Pssh. Give me a freakin’ break. I LOVE my Japanese Jaguar bass and I would totally be into a P/J one… But not a chance at that price. Assembled in Japan, Mexico, America, the moons of Jupiter, or wherever… There is no way there is anything $1,000 more valuable in this instrument compared to the one sitting in my lap right now.

That's MSRP. Street is $1499. Still not at all cheap, but a far cry from $2100.

Yeah, I get that the street price is different. My reaction was that the “Deluxe” and “Standard” Jaguar basses are priced $1,000 apart on Fender’s website ($2,099 and $1,099 MSRP, respectively, and I’m assuming the difference between MSPR and street prices would also be around the same) and the only difference seems to be swapping out a J for P pickup and a different color burst finish.

Just having a “come on, man” moment. Similar to seeing some kind of brand new ultra-mega Fender Precision 10-top or something for $3,000 in the rich-people section of Guitar Center.

Different EQ section, different bridge assembly, string through body, different pickups ENTIRELY, stealth string tree on A string, different hardware...considerably more than just a pickup swap, to be fair.

Percentage-wise, the price difference is the same at the street level, but it comes out to $700 rather than a grand. Also, did they move production of the Jag to Mexico? I would assume that's why it's $799 street, MIJ Fender basses tend to cost more than that new now (if indeed there are any MIJs still sold in the US).
Not sure I would buy the MIA one new, but I can kind of understand the pricing. Perhaps when they hit the used market...

Just took possession of one. Gonna use it on the Seth Myers Show July 9. Overall feels solidly built. We'll see how it goes.

The white/brown tortoiseshell combo with the rosewood and blocks is REAL cool, but it isn't nearly sparkly enough for a Neon Trees tour bass!! ;^)

Looks great, the bridge is a lot sturdier looking and the string through configuration together with the small tuning heads and p/j configuration should make this a great alternative to a p or jazz bass for the same price. I don't see the point of all the switches and knobs. It's like they were trying to think up of functions for the switches rather than the other way around. For example the on off switches for the pups. (Why not just use a blender pot?) More things to go wrong over time if you ask me. I think a classic P/J passive design would be a winner.
