Fender American Vintage '63 Precision Bass Appreciation Thread

It took awhile, but I finally found a decently-priced old cellulose nitrate tort pickguard with the 1960's reds and yellows I was looking for.

I'm not a fan of Fender's modern tort pickguards; they are too brown and look nothing like the pickguards from the 1960's. This one is exactly the tort I think of when I see pictures of 1960's basses.

Here's my AV 63 P Oly white, bought in 2014. My main player since then as it's an incredible bass, sound and feel. It hasn't taken on that creamy colour yet like Warpeg's bass but I look forward to when it does. Warpeg's looks so cool.

After years of hoping to stumble onto one of these, I finally found a local 2016 AVRI 63 P. Still had the plastic on the pickguard. Also, the neck isn't nearly as wide as I expected. This will complement my daily driver, 2013 American Standard.

Great question! My 2013 '63 P-bass has the same CS stamp on the tag. I've heard that this series was, at least in part, built by the Custom Shop; but I do not recall it being confirmed. A Google search on the topic didn't turn up any answers, so I'd be interested in knowing the answer to your question as well.

I set it up and cleaned it today. It still had the plastic on the pickups too. The collector in me thought to just keep it NOS but that seemed like a waste and I'm going to play this and give it a new life!

It means Carlos Santana. Mine was assembled by Gerry Rafferty

In a way, this is an interesting question. All the other sections are handwritten initals or signatures. This is from my 2014 AVS FSR Jazz Bass.

On the other hand, there are Fender cards that have stemps on all that sections. Maybe people, who work there for a longer time, get stemps.

So I have come to the conclusion, these are all initials of people, who work for Fender.

The reason I wanted it so badly (outside of it being such a great bass)? I wanted to have a back up/safe gigging option/replica of my original '63.
