Now, the 62 AVRI are great basses. I just received mine to complement my 62 AVRI P, and I'm loving it. Stack knobs, thin neck, beautiful nitro, Alder body. I do love the blocks though (I sort of want to find a 75 AVRI rosewood neck and put it on my 62 AVRI body).

Kind of a shame that they don't make an AVRI 67 or 68 with 60's pup spacing and a B&B neck. That would really be a sweet bass.

Although several custom builders can do all that for you.

C'mon I've got enough arguing already planned out with the warden, please don't add to it.
I just bought another bass the other day and I'm strongly considering this LPB one as well.
She's not gonna be thrilled. But she'll get over it.

They start up with 60's versions with the B&B and I'm just gonna build a permanent addition on the dog house. :-)

$500 for the LPB Jazz is still a pretty good deal, IMO.

Externally, the only thing lacking on the MIJ/CIJ 60's Jazz RI's is that they usually use 70's style tuners and the finish is poly. But the AVRI's have a thick poly undercoat, too.

Didn't know the AVRI'S had a poly undercoat, why did they do that?
Wouldn't people want the thing to age like the original it's supposed to be modeled after?

Well, I'm supposed to go see it tonight so, well see how it stacks up.

Pre CBS fenders have a undercoat its called fullerplast and its actually about as tough as the modern day poly undercoat , the new Av's will age in a similar fashion.

So is this modern undercoat yellow like the fullerplast?

Or another color or clear or what?

Man the more I hear the more I'm starting to really really want one or two :-)

Its not yellow like fullerplast , pretty sure its clear. The bass may age a little better then a pre cbs bass , meaning a newer reissue probably wont lose paint as bad/fast but relativly similar , the nitro on the AV's is pretty fragile they come with a tag on the case new warning you of the nitro. If you dig through the AV thread there are some with some pretyy substantial wear and there are a few that are new ( menaing a year or less old) that already have chips , dings and impressions

Sweet, I want one with some ability to look mojoified after a while. Otherwise what's the point of the nitro?

If I wanted it to look pristine forever I'd get a bass with a poly force field and call it a day.

And before anyone says that poly and nitro effect tone dramatically, it's falling on deaf ears.
Whether it does or not makes no difference to me.
I strongly believe paint has about as much effect on tone as the color of shirt I'm wearing when I play it.

Speaking of which, what material gives better tone?
Cotton, Denim, Polyester, Rayon, khaki, wool, satin, silk, leather, or suede?

These are very nice basses. I bought one new in 2000, which I think was the 2nd year it was out. It was my go-to for quite awhile. I was a bit concerned about the 3-bolt neck, but I've never had a problem with it. And I tend to dig in pretty good on certain songs.

I fell in love with the look after seeing it in a Frontline catalog. Ordered one and was never disappointed. Here she is (with her P-Bass cousin in the 2nd pic):

Your just going to get the tone argument , yeah like a POSSIBLE slight change in a bass players tone matters, 50% ( probably more) of the people who dont play bass dont even hear the bass in songs.......and I dont even believe in the tone argument.

I think its funny when bass players go on and on about tiny tone differences.......you know who pays attention to bass tone? bass players....that be it.

I've noticed believe me and I'm not saying at least some of it isn't relevant, but some if that stuff just gets a bit excessive.
Hence the reason for my shirt color and material tone related question.

I can see certain things effecting it but others in such a minimal way that discussing them is a bit much.
