Fender Bassman 100T Chapter 3

And a way to get full power tube overdrive is to simply use less speakers.
Even with my SB300 I can get it to power tube drive by just using one Bassman Neo 115 cab. Sure with this amp that's getting bl@@dy loud but if think on the 25w or even the 100w setting you should obtain this at a reasonable volume. I know with my V4B I can easily drive the power tubes pretty easily into a small cab. Even into a 410. ... Heck I was running outta clean headroom the other night with my V4B into my 810! !! :woot::bassist::woot:

In the right situations the 25 watt mode is fabulous imo. It goes into such a severe self-compression before it starts really breaking up, it sounds like a huge tube studio compressor is on it. It has a wonderful growl with flats, which I play mostly, but with rounds it absolutely screams. It can sound like Entwistle or Wetton at their angriest. At least with my Jack Casady Epi it does. Enjoy!

Posted this in the Bassman 300T forum BUT since I'm undecided as to whether to go with the 100T or 300T, I'll drop this here as well.

Any experience playing either of these heads through Aguilar DB cabs? Impressions? Thoughts? Played the 300T with the Fender neo410 and was completely impressed (especially comparing it directly with the SVT-CL) but want to know if any of the "magic" was in the cabs...

Hi, I'd been looking to buy the new Ampeg v4 but with the dollar so low down under in Oz they are insanely expensive. I stumbled on a 100t new over $800 cheaper than the V4 so pulled the plug and now own this as well as the 410. It looks like it an older one according to the SN and the salesman told me it would cost a lot more if I waited for the next shipment due to the dollar Oz dollar value vs US. I Have now used it on 2 gigs, the first the day I bought it with my stingray 5 which was an improvement on my ampeg 210 v2 rig, but where it really shone so far was on it's 2nd gig with my Am deluxe p in passive mode. Tonight I'm playing a funk gig and am using my newly acquired (whilst recently in LA at guitarcenter) , Bongo hh. Wondering if anyone else plays Bongo's or 18 volt pre basses through a 100t? Haven't found much info in the threads as such as these basses have a higher output level.

Hey guys. Still loving my 100T. Quick question on the insert for the 12AT7 tube. Mine is now deformed by heat and I cannot insert a new tube through it anymore without bending pins in the process. For now I have removed the insert, but is it safe to transport the head with a 12AT7 in the socket without the insert protecting it? What should I replace the insert with if anything?

Thanks in advance for any responses.

so, after owning the amp for 4 weeks then sending it out to fender for warranty service for 10 weeks i finally have the amp back. never knew it was such a huge job to change a ribbon cable and auto bias circuit board. Now, the amp sounds great and the bias is working, except now, on the vintage channel only im getting a constant clicking and popping that wasnt there before. Nice job fender warranty dudes. did you even turn in on before sending it back to me? is it too much to frigging ask to have an amp that i can actually use for the money i paid without sending it on extended vacations every few days? seriously considering getting my money back on this one. id rather pay for 2 amps with that actually work than this maintenance nightmare. my ashdown has a fender style tone stack and sounds awesome and has never had any issues, if i get rid of the fender and get an ampeg style tone stack id have both channels covered, of course in 2 separate amps, but if they work i'd be very happy

I'm sure that'd be fine. They're just lil tin covers. Wouldn't hurt if it wasn't on ever I'd think. No problems.

Got a chance to play a 100T the other day, and as I was hoping, was completely blown away by the tone. Have read through this whole informative thread since (and skimmed the earlier threads), and now planning to pick up either a 100T or a 300w SB.

I've got a Bergantino CN212, which I like and plan on keeping until I'm needing something bigger down the track (also eyeing off the 610 Neo, but it can wait). This cabinet is quite a bit narrower than the head though. Has anyone run them together, and have any feedback on whether a Bassman head will sit on top of a Berg 212 OK? @MrCool84 I did see that you have both from an earlier post?

I'd love to hear anyone's impression of the Bergantino CN212 vs the Fender 410 Neo with a Bassman head too if possible. I could always sell the Berg and buy a 410 if need be.

Can't comment on the 410 Bassman neo, but the Bassman 115 neo sure is a ripper! ! I'm constantly impressed with it. I used it with my 100w Ampeg V4B RI the other night and, damn, it let's this amp shine as well as my Super Bassman.
Cheers mate. The cab I played the 100T through was a 410 Neo, and it sounded great. Still, if it'll work/sit OK, I'd prefer to keep my CH212 for now, and get a 610 down the track. Then the 212 can still be my smaller/easier to move cab.

Spose I could always take my CN212 into the shop that had the 100T and see for myself, but always appreciate TB members real world experience too of course.

Thanks for the reply. However, I'm talking about the 12AT7 (that has a plastic insert around it), not the 12AX7's (that have the metal tin). The 12AT7 insert is incredibly tight around the tube from the factory, to the point where it's almost impossible to get the original tube out of there. Now that it's out, it won't fit back in. :)

I'm hoping it's OK to move around. One way or the other I'm going to find out - need to move the amp quite a bit in the next 2 weeks.

so if im getting the crackling on popping on the vintage channel and not the modern would the first suspicion be a preamp tube?
I would suspect that it is v1. One half of v1 is the first preamp stage for both channels, the second half is the vintage channel's final stage, so it seems it would be that half of v1 that's the problem. But I'm certainly no tube amp technician.

i just took it to the store near me who has a tube repairman and he turned it on and said it sounded like some dirt blew in there. i thought that was strange because dirt wasnt in there before, and the modern channel is silent. i asked if a tube could have been damaged in transport and he said that tubes are like light bulbs, they either work or the dont, there really isnt any in between that would cause noise. im no tube expert, but this sounds like nonsense, no?

I had noise from a tube in a preamp once that was not seated right. Once I pushed it all the way in the noise stopped and no more problems so I don't think he knows what he is talking about but I am no tech. You could make sure the tubes are seated , it want void the warranty. If it is a new amp I would ask for a replacement.

Dirt blew in? Blew in where? Sounds like he was tripping.
